I have a mini-14, AR15, and my 870 12 gauge. Sidearms are Sig 226 in 9mm, and Glock 23 in 40 cal. I plan on staying at the home if shtf, because I cannot carry all the supplies I need. Mike

I chose the M-14 family of rifles because I got to use a XM-21 sniper rifle over in Viet Nam. The XM-21 was a fancy M-14 with scope and kiln dried stock. I was a sniper for my last 7 months over there and my rifle bagged a number of bad guys and this pig. Dropped the pig with one shot. I love the M-14 family of rifles over the M-16 rifles. I'd go back into combat in a heartbeat with a good M-14 type rifle. They are just so much more effective.

Barrett Rec-7. Gas-piston operating system, 6.8 spc caliber. All the strengths of the AR platform. None of the weaknesses.

I'd want to have an AR with me. 30 rounds and accurate out to about 500yds.

M4 style AR15 for me. They work well and I have the most training and experience with them (in part because I prefer them)...

A2 version of the AR-15 for me or perhaps a flat top with an ACOG. AK's have just never impressed me in the accuracy department. Usually the groups are at least two to three times as big as an AR at the same ranges. The 6.8 SPC cartridge really interests me, but until I can actually hope to find ammo somewhere other than the internet, I'll pass. I never had a problem with mine, inside or out of the military, that couldn't be traced directly to old beat up magazines. Granted, I was never deployed. |

i dont care what you guys say about the m4/m16. i know it, i love it, i trust it with my life. it's proven its worth to me and i'm sticking to my guns(litterally). Everybody makes valid points and i am a huge fan of every rifle(for the most part) for different situations but overall i would pick my m4, given the fact i had unlimited cleaning gear and time to clean(yes, i just admitted it but wont say it)

Personally I would love My AR15 for s SHTF senario, but right now I am gathering funds for an AK. I purchased an SKS due to the low cost of ammunition compared to my AR15. 5.56x45 Nato is way more expensive than 7.62x39. A recent trip to the range showed me the effectiveness with proper setup (Scope / underfolding stock) While the underfolding stock is a pain to use it is easier to conceal under a jacket, and ammo is extremely cheap compared to my AR. Probly just me but I cant hit my mark with my ar, my brother does fine with my iron sights but I dont know the proper way to use them I guess! Also the AK I am trying to get uses the same ammo as my SKS which is my favorite weapon over any of my hunting rifles! Last edited by Logante; 07-26-2008 at 09:27 PM. |
