Heres an idea for ya....

Ok, call me crazy, but I got me an idea. I'm starting my build on my first AR, and this is going to kindof be an all around SHTF rifle. I'm going with a 20" barrel so I'll have that ability to "reach out and touch someone" beyond 200 yards . NOW, heres the deal. I know I'll buy a flip up rear sight for it, and I know I'll put a red-dot on it for close range. While looking through a catalog the other night, I stumbled across a 45 degree mount for AR's. I also just got Call of Duty 2 and noticed the scope on the Enfields are at an angle to the left side of the gun( I know I know its a game), but I got to thinking. With a 20" barrel I'll have the ability to stick a bipod under it without having a problem. If I could stick a flip up rear sight on the back(for backup), and a red-dot AND a nice scope to the side, by god, I'd have everything covered. :target: .... Looks like this, the only problem I can see is I'd be pushing it for space. I have a feeling the red-dot and scope would take up to much space and hit each other.

What i have seen some people do, is have regular sights or a flat top w/ a scope. They had a handguard w/ the 4 rails on it, on the right rail they had a holo sight or a red dot because they don't require a certain eye relief. I'm not saying that this works good, but I've seen it.

However I'm a firm believer in: Simple is Smooth, Smooth is Fast, and Fast is Good. If it were me, I'd have just a scope w/ flip up sights for backup

Thats the thing, I want the rear sights of course, I also want some type of long range capability, but also the easy target acquisition of a red-dot.

I'd get the 45° adapters, even if you don't end up using them for this specific reason, you can surely find some use for them, just dont get this many things on your AR15

Holy cheese and rice Batman!!!! Whatever happened to Keep It Simple, Stupid???? The only thing I have on my Bushmaster M4 is an Aimpoint M2, with GG&G flip-up rear sights, a Tango-down veritcal grip, with a Surefire
XD-200 light with a pressure pad on it. It does everything that I want it to, and it's pretty easy to get in and out of a patrol car in a hurry if you have to.

I have to say that such a thing is tempting. In hunting I've wished I had multiple siting options at my fingertips.

In some "practical" competition ARs, they have short site radius irons on the handguard at about 45 degrees.

How about a simple carry model handled upper -- put a see through rail in the top of the handle and you have your iron sights and the red dot its simple and effective. I have a similar setup for my AR

I'd sure hate to drop that thing. It looks like something out of Star Wars.

All i have on mine is a standard A-2 type upper with a 16 incher attached to it. The only customizing it has had is a triggerjob and a spare-parts kit (extractor, ejector, springs and pins) in the pistolgrip. No scope or reddot sight or anything special. I tried a scope on a see through mount and it just threw the balance off so i went back to stock configuration. May be cause the scope was a 24X back when i took the AR after coyotes. It was useless that way as a tactical rig though.
