| Senior Member | I just saw this thread I know 16s like the back of my hand--the a1 you could not recycle if a round was lodged you were pretty much a goner, the a2 you can ---the 16 is extremely accurate my grandma could put rounds in the black at 200 yards --and shes dead. you just have to keep them clean is all |

| Banned | I really would like to know how old Gio is. I'm not asking this to be a smart@ss or anything Gio. It's just you've said your doing a report on the M16, and the whole permit question just threw me for a loop. |

| All I know is that my next big purchase that is not a new shotgun will be an AR-10 like the one I posted earlier. They have lots of power, accurate, good rate of fire, and look really cool. I know that they are very pricey, but all guns are getting to be more than they are worth. I have an Bushmaster M4 with a good scope and it is a great gun. All you need is well placed shot and your target is going down. Great for targets but if I was in combat I would want one chambered in .308.

| I do like the AR-10, but if I were going to get a new 308 outside of a Springfield I think I would get a windrunner. If I just had to get an AR in 30 cal. I would likely get an AR-30 in 338. |

| I just had a thought…could be moot or just flat stupid at this point…but lets say the Military invested a bit (and it wouldn’t be a HUGE investment) and upgraded the issue M16 to a bull barrel with a 1 in 6.5 twist enabling the use of the heavier 70, 80, and 90 gr sierra bullets. Does any one think that would be of any benefit? By the way what round does the military use now…I could be arguing a point that has already been handled???? |

| Banned | But wouldn't the heavier rounds just allow for a longer shot? I think one of the main problems the soldiers are having is that the .223/5.56 doesn't have the "knock down power" the .308 has. I mean think about it, you shot hit in the leg or the arm with a .223, it's probably going to go strait through. A few weeks behind the lines and your good to go. Now if you get hit with a .308 in the arm or leg, your missing a limb. Of couse I could be wrong. |

| ok this is coming from a newb to some degree with AR's but couldn't the miltary save some dough and just get new uppers chambered in .308 and using some R&D to get a working 30rd mag, then troops would have a rifle that is accurate reliable and has good knock down power. Or have them chambered in .243 and get the bests of both worlds |

| THe AR-10 is the way to go. Sure you only get 20 mags but they are worth it for the extra power and distance. Get one in full auto rock and roll and we have oursleves a shootout.

| It may not be accurate but it would be fun. I am going to put the rest of the balance down on the new 12ga.
