Red dot sights

Never shot a gun with one. Do you just center it in the sight ring? Doesn't the front sight show up in it also or do you center it and line it up with the front pin?

Actually, that's close but not entirely correct.

With a red-dot as you move your head the point of impact remains where you see the dot. If you see the dot in the upper left corner of the sight picture, the bullet will still hit where the dot is.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but that's how all of mine seem to work. It's my understanding that this is why they let you get on target so fast.

Yup, like At4rxj said, wherever the dot is pointing, the bullet will impact (if sighted in properly). It doesn't matter where the dot apears in the scope. You sight these in like any other scope

It only works that way on parallax free red dots such as Eotechs and Aimpoints (There may be others but these I know for a fact are parallax free). You may not notice any difference at 25 yards but the further out you go the more you'll notice a change in POI when using lesser optics. I have tried it with a few BSA red dots a few Hakko's and a few other generic red dots and personally found that they don't work the same as the Eotech or Aimpoint.

Yep. Even though, once again, I'm not following my own advice. Do it right the first time. Doesn't matter what it is, just do it right the first time. +1 for EOTech and Aimpoint.

EO Tech is the best holosight and Aimpoint has the best red dot. I couldn't afford either so I got an Ultra Dot, so far it is accurate up to 200 yards and has proven itself honorable, its whole family holds head up with pride. Now BSA's ancestors are weeping and ashamed.
