The AR/M4 are being replaced with a rifle that has eliminated the gas tube and replaced it with a short stroke piston, something to think about. ![]()

They've been trying to replace the M16/M4 for years now. It will happen eventually but I doubt it will be any time soon.

The rifle is here,it is just a matter of time before the AR/M4's are replaced. The weapon is not available to the public. ![]() The new weapon is the 416 and is,in many circles, considered to be the best carbine in the world. The regular Army is sticking with the Ar/m4. ![]() Last edited by Rave; 02-26-2007 at 07:50 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

| Does anybody have link to an online article about the new carbine? Never mind I found an online link. Better than M4, but you can’t have one - Military News, Army News, opinions, editorials, news from Iraq, photos, reports - Army Times The weapon sounds great. I want one. | The HK 416 is nothing new. There have been plenty of rumors about it. There were also rumors that the XM8 was replacing the M16 and now it's pretty much gone. What about the Scar or the new Masada? I think anyone except SF units are far from adopting any new weapon as a replacement for the M16/M4. Just my Opinion though! |

History channel ran a series n Afghan and Iraq firefights and in one episode a 6ft 7 inch US soldier died after his M16 jammed in closeup night time combat. I can still vividly remember the debate about the reliability issues of the M16 in the Viet Nam War when I was in grade school in the 60s. When the rifle was issued in Nam it jammed. The ammo powder was blamed. The M16 has never broken free of the stigma that it jams. The AK still gets raves as being reliable. Even if I live 30 more years I don't think this debate over the M16s reliability will ever be settled. 100 years from now historians may look back on the M16 as a 20th century Krag.
