| I don't know about you guys, but I like pictures.... a thousand words and whatnot. The Box O' Truth - Educational Zone #18 - Shooting Wolf steel-cased Ammo in an AR15 This will show you the difference between laquer- and polymer-coated ammo. It will also show you how the rounds work in an AR15. It will also tell you how to properly shoot it.

| Wolf ammo in an AR reciver? I thought all wolf ammo had steel casings, won't that scratch or ding up the eject port on an AR reciver. My AK loves wolf ammo, I've always been too afraid to shoot wolf in anything other than my AK. Is the "wolf ammo bad",in an AR just an urban legend myth, or an evil conspracy used to scare shooters away from a great deal in ammo? |

| a buddy and myself both bought dpms ar15a4 's about a month ago. i came across a good deal at a gun show and bought a case of remington 65gr for 175 bucks... he bought some wolf, i think his half case was 160 or so... 270 rounds into the case ( about two hours) his gun jammed. tried to remove the bad round and continue, and nothing would happen. come to find out one of his gas rings had bent and was COVERED in sticky trash from all the shit they put in thier rounds. we burried the other 220 rounds in a huge hole and now we need to get a new bolt because the rings scratched it. meanwhile i ran through the case of remington and a few hundred rounds of federal, and a light cleaning was all it took. about 1500 rounds in 4 and a half hours. DONT SHOOT WOLF. its shit. |

| I hate cleaning my AR as it is when I shoot Remington. I can only imagine with Wolf ammo. I'm not worried about the polymer, as I hear it's not going to melt, but the seal and carbon blow by is a problem, and not just because of extraction issues. I'm wondering if the blow-by of gas because of a poor seal can do anything to erode the chamber prematurely? |

| Senior Member | Bottom line is that yes, there is better stuff out there. (the following is all my opinion...) Wolf ammo is a lot better than it used to be. The polymer coated stuff doesn't leave the "gummy" residue that the lacquered stuff did. Where you will have a problem is if you shoot a lot of wolf, then go and try to shoot brass cased stuff. The steel cased ammo will allow a little more buildup in the chamber as it doesn't expand like the brass cased stuff. If the brass cased ammo is shot afterwards, it will expand onto the dirty chamber and "hang" or "stick" very slightly. This adds to the wear on your extractor and probably the gas system as well. I've shot quite a bit of wolf through my ar's, and have only had one problem with it. As USMC said... for plinking and practice, it's fine, as long as you clean it afterwards and don't mind the extra cleaning required. If you look around, you can find some deals on brass cased stuff that are pretty close to the price of Wolf.

| Wolf isnt bad if you keep it clean and get the polymer coated. I bought a 1000 rounds last month and am pretty much thru it all. Keep the damn thing clean (like you should anyway) and it wont hurt it. AT4- you find those deals you let me know! I spend a lot of time on the computer looking for deals and I cant even come close, except for that brown Bear shit. Any hints?

| The steel cased Wolf ammo may not work in your AR. (It didn't work in mine) The reason is, it is coated with lacquer to preserve them against rusting. The problem here is, the coating adds 0.001" to the diameter of the casing, and it is likely to get jammed into the barrel, after shooting. |

| My rifle does not like the Military Classic at all. Silver Bear and the black Wolf is fine, but I don't shoot steel cased ammo any more, too many problems.
