DPMS Illegal

I just learned the AR15 I got as a present for Christmas is illegal in California. I got the info from two reputable gun shops, one specializing in AR15s.
What can I do besides stashing the rifle until a SHTF situation occcurs. My rifle is a DPMS in .223.

PS I just bought two 5 round magazines...would they bring the AR into compliance?

What a bunch of BS.

First we need to know what type of rifle it is. M4? Post ban, pre ban? Fixed stock, collapsible stock? Bayonet lug? Flash hider? Is it permanently attached?

AH. The folks at the gun shops don't know who I am or where I live. I just phoned them about putting better sights on the gun. The gun has never been fired.

Pred,
Collapsible stock, no flash hider, post ban, no bayonet lug. I don't know anything about the AR15, and really didn't want it to begin with. I'm a pistol guy.

Here's the deal. I'm no expert when it comes to AR laws in your state. But I'm thinking that in order to keep the pistol grip/collapsible stock you have to buy a kit that will "fix" the mag in place. Meaning that to load the gun you have to break it open and load it by hand/with stripper clips. Now, if you want to have a removable mag you have to buy a stock that is a single piece for the stock and grip. Look up Calif. AR stock and see what you can find. Looks something like this:

Doc, I wonder if it was one that was "Registered" as California law required, when the Ban went into effect .

good point it could already be legal did cali ban them after the 94,ban? because he said his doesn't have a bayo lugso that would make it a post-ban/pre-caliban. i know there are some cops in here run the numbers thats a good way to find out where's oneastrix? he still a cop?

Check out calguns.net.

I don't remember off hand any DPMS lower receivers on the "assault weapons" list. It must be banned by name. But you must also be sure not to have it configured as an assault weapon, such as a pistol grip and a push button detachable mag.

You can have a mag-lock or bullet button and all the "evil" features you want, or a featureless build with regular push button dropped mags.

As I said, check out calguns.net for all the info.

Problem solved. I have a buddy visiting from Grand Prarie, Texas. He is taking the AR with him back to Texas. Glad its out of my home. Now I can buy another 1911A1 for my collection.

That works - too bad you live in CA. AR's are nice rifles and lots of fun. Maybe you can go visit your buddy in Texas and play with it there!

I looked it up, the only DPMS listed on the Robert Roos assault weapon list are the Panther series. If it's not a Panther series receiver, you should be fine.
