| Senior Member | Detachable Carry Handles / Books I purchased an Armalite AR-15 with a flattop, full barrel, and fixed stock. I'm thinking of going with a detachable carry handle and front sight until I can scrape together the money for an ACOG. Any recomendations on a good carry handle and front sight? I see Armalite has a National Match version of the carry handle sight. Also, any recommendations on a good book on cleaining, maintaining, and shooting it? I'm fairly familiar with the AR-15 platform thanks to a stint in the Army and owning a Bushmaster A2 in the past. I would however like to lean more. |

They also have one or two others which you might find interesting. Check out their website under AR15 parts. |

| Banned | Why buy a carry handle? For the same money you can get a flip up rear sight. Once you get the money for a red dot, you can still have your back up sights. With a carry handle you'll have to take it off. If the optic ever fails, your screwed. Edit... Wait, are you saying your rifle doesn't have a front sight? What type of gas block and hand guard is on it? Last edited by Pred; 02-11-2008 at 08:57 AM. |

| Senior Member | Try this link for either the carry handle, Colt brand $80 bucks, other brand, $50 bucks, rear flip up sight $30 bucks. I've only dealt with this place once. I bought some mags and shell extractors. I plan on going back for other items they carry. You can also find carry handles elsewhere. Depends on if you want a brand name, or something that will work just as well, still well made and high quality, for less. AR-15/M-16 Gun Parts G-Meister

| Senior Member | I'll have to pick up that book soon. As for the sight, there is no front sight. The rifle is a M-15 A4 SPR. It has a gas block with picatinny rail on top. Full length, standard handguards (not floated). My resoning for going with a carry handle was to practice with fixed sights for a while, then pick up an ACOG for the flat top and a match upper later on. That may change later, but for right now I'm planning on eventually having a match upper and an upper with optics. It came with a scope mount for the pickatinny rail, so I may throw on a 3-9 power scope (Simmons Prohunter) I have lying around until I figure out exactly what I want to do. |
