AR-15 Ammo

I have a Colt A2 -AR15. Does anyone recommend a specific ammo for shooting good groups? Am taking it prairie doggin this spring, and want to get some good rounds loaded.

I would first recommend that you take several types of ammo to the range and see what shoots best in YOUR gun. Though FMJ would surely work, you will have better visual impact and effect with soft pointed ammo. I myself find the Sierra 63 grain semi-spitzer to be the most accurate in my RRA one in 8 twist. It has an ogive further up that helps the bullet engage the rifling better.

Good groups are subjective. It all depends on how "good" you want them. Getting accuracy out of box is fine for some... every brand is different in every different gun, M14 man is right about that. Maybe try a more serious brand of ammo like Aguila, *maybe* Black Hills, CorBon, DoubleTap, Federal, Hornady or Nosler at: 223 Remington

It is entirely up to you how accurate you need to be.

To get the absolute best groups you can out of your rifle, you will probably want to reload them, depending on how serious you are.

Black Hills and Hornaday are the 2 most accurate loads on the market.

Sometimes it all depends on what your rifle likes too. Sometimes I've seen guns shoot MOA groups with crap ammo consistently, but of course you're ridiculously lucky if that happens. The suggested brands are good starts. I just tried the Hornady TAP rounds and I love them.

Whats your barrel twist?

My COLT HBAR has a 1:7 twist...needs 60 gr on up to be truly accurate.....

A 1-7 twist will work perfectly fine with lighter bullets.

I'm not sure. How do you tell? It is a pre ban gun.
