I just bought an Armalite AR10 lower also, at a gun show today. I was thinking Timney for the trigger. The gun I bought it from said that the Armalite lower needed Armalite unique parts for the pins and the mag release. Does this sound right? He said that I can use anyone's parts for the rest of it.

I'm thinking about getting an upper chambered for 7-08. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

Thanks in advance. As I build it, I will share my experiences and problems here.

i have built 5 so far, from laying out, tools parts inventory, 1.5 hours tops for lower. it is fast.
thye only fit in one way . ps. keep a sharp eye out for the spring and detent in the pivot pin, that is the most difficult to install, and they will get away from you. the rest are easy,

OK, I ordered a parts kit from Armalite for the lower. I guess I will throw away the standard trigger that comes with it.

I am looking at a Jard or a Timney for the trigger. The Jard is about $100 cheaper. Any opinions?

George... don't throw it away, you may want to keep a "spare parts" drawer for your AR. If I may ask, how much was the parts kit for the Armalite lower?

Timney is a single-stage trigger only (I believe) so it depends on whether or not you want a two-stage trigger. I believe that is the key difference other than the cost. Personally, I am used to the single-stage triggers so I'll probably go for the Timney.

It was about $100.00. link is here:

LOWER PARTS KITS

The Jard says it is a single stage trigger:

I plan on an Obermeyer full-diameter 22" barrel.

I was thinking about a stainless, heavy barrel, probably 20". Free floating with a flat top. I thought someone made a barreled upper in 7-08, but I can't find one now. Anyone have any recommendations for the upper? How is DPMS regarded? Any other recommendations? I might build two and do one in .260 and one in .308.

Well, I finally received the next part... a Magpul Precision Rifle Stock, Gen 2.

Next is the lower parts kit and the pistol grip. Given the receiver is an Eagle Arms (Div of Armalite) ... are there any suggestions beyond the normal or another place that offers the same for less cost?

This is what I've found, thanks to George Bruce:

AR10 LOWER RECEIVER PARTS KIT W/ STANDARD TRIGGER, BLACK

Thanks in advance...

I plan to use mine as more of a tack-driver, nothing more. I plan to set it up on a bipod as it will probably be close to a 16 - 17lb. rifle. There is also the chance I will get a "muffler" for it... do the ol ATF form 4 deal...

... as much as pics would be nice, I only have the stripped receiver and the Magpul Precision Rifle Stock, Gen 2.

... nothing is even close to going together yet until I get the lower parts kit.

jmp8927 ... trust me... when I have something to show, I certainly will. This is what I would consider a "group project" from the people here who know more about building an AR-10 than I do ....

I would love an AR-10! The only reason I am not a huge fan of the AR-15 is because I like to feel it when I shoot and the .223 just doesn't do it for me. About how much do you think your build will have cost you in the end Larry?

Not sure... but I'm guessing it will be less expensive in the end to buy it as a complete rifle. I am buying it part by part to get the best for it... so a total cost... is a scary thought. Either way... I'm going to build it as best I can with the best parts available.

thats what im doing with my ar15 build sense my first ar was a dpms ar10. the only upgrades i do want to put in my dpms (besides the ones ive already done) are to get a timney ar10 trig and a dpms free float high rise quad rail. in my other thread i posted that i need help with the free float. i have no clue. no replies yet lol.one thing i would get on top of any parts for your lower is a good grip. but thats usually preference. i like the ergo pistol.

All are great triggers, but Jewell and Timeny are at the top of that list for a reason. Best triggers money can buy. I have the RRA 2 stage in my Stag and love it, but if I had the money to spend I would have hot a Jewell without a doubt.

The lower parts kit is vital, are you using an Armalite LPK?? What stock??

The National Match shooters I know... use Geissele triggers.

I have not had any personal experience with them, but I have heard great reviews. I just am partial to Jewell, but there are a lot of great triggers on the market and the trigger will determine how well your rifle shoots. I can't stand regular old stock triggers, they feel like crap. What I like about Jewell is that they have an adjustable model that you can adjust from 2.5 lbs to 6 lbs. I had my RRA worked on so it is 3.25 lbs after the first stage, exactly what I wanted. What lb pull are you looking for??
