I have wanted a 458 Socom for a looooong time. I wish I would've bought the upper when I had a chance @ $550.00. Now the going rate is right around $700.00

The 338 Spectre looks like a mean round. They have a picture of a 5.56x45 and a 7.62X39 flanked on each side of the .338 Spectre rounds. pretty impressive. And the 458 SOCOM . . . Forget about it! It's insane!
I'd (forgive the pun) Kill for one of those. Too sweet.

well the 338 Spectre doesn't really interest me that much. It's a 6.8SPC necked up to take a .338 cal bullet. I think it was designed for sub sonic uses. However the .458 Socom appears to be gaining popularity especially in Indiana where it's a legal round to deer hunt with. It works in standard 5.56 magazines so you don't need special mags like the other big bore AR rifles. Barnes is making 458 bullets that are designed for the Socoms velocities. I really like it. It would be a great brush gun. A 16" semi auto carbine throwing a 350gr bullet near trapdoor 45-70 velocities? What's not to like about it?

Are you sure it's legal to hunt deer with in Indiana? Not trying to be a nay sayer but I live here and I can't find anything in the DNR literature about it. As far as I know we can use any pistol round carbine 40 cal or larger but no dedicated rifle rounds. Is the 458 SOCOM a pitol round to begin with? Does it fall under the "GRAY" area?

The .458 Socom falls under the Over All Length restrictions set by the DNR. There are several people on AR15.com that live in IN and hunt with it. I did a quick search and found it right on the DNR website. The max OAL is 1.625"
If I still lived in Indiana I would use the Socom for hunting.
