New calibers on the AR platform

We once thought they were a distinctly 223 rifle. Then we see that a rare few were made in 222 Remington. Then come the 9mm versions, then the 45, 40, 10mm, and other versions. Then come the 22LR conversions. And worlds clash when it comes out in 7.62x39mm. Our dreams come true when we see the AR-10s in 308 and 243. Now the 15s are being increasingly adapted for 300 Whisper.
Tromix made/makes versions in 50 AE, I think 400 or 440 Cor Bon, and in the 458 Socom Monster that surpassees the 45-70 in energy.
A company called Accuracy Systems (one of many, no doubt) does Minis and AR15s in 6x45mm, I think 22 and 6mm PPC, and maybe others. They also do AR-10s in the Winchester Short Magnums.
Someone I think is doing them (or is it the FAL) in Remington's SAUMs, no doubt paid by Remington to use their unpopular short magnum instead of Winchester's more common one.
SSK does them in a few calibers, including 338 wildcats, something in 50 cal, and stuff I don't remember.
And then there are the custom conversions and wildcats, like a 338 caliber 223 wildcat and an AR-10 in 358 Winchester.

My question is what would you want that's already there or not? Could you see anyone else wanting it?

I myself would be thrilled to see a long action AR come out, which would feed from BAR mags and spew 30-06, 270 Win, 35 Whelen, and the belted magnum series of 7mm Rem, 300 Win, and 338 Win. Carl from the old site suggested basically that.

Could I afford it? Ha ha ha ha ha!

223-22unit does anything NEEDED.

the rest is all just fun and games, in other words, it doesn't matter any if you can do it or not.

Battlerifle one of the conversions I own and love is the 6x45mm cartirdge in the AR it feeds in standard magazines and the only thing that can't be reused from one upper to the other is the barrel. The bolt is the same since the wildcat cartirdge is based on a 223 case. I am loading 100grain ballistic tips from Nosler and so far the caliber has dropped a really nice buck for me and several coyote whn I took it with me two years ago on a trip.

Have any ballistic specs on 6x45mm? Sounds very nice.

I think people have made them in 17 Remington, a necked down 223.

Now that you mention it, 22 WMR and 17 HMR do seem to be a void in the AR caliber market. Way back in the day there was a 22 WMR carbine made by Grendel that took 30rd double stack mags that fit in the grip. Then they were banned.
I think they're out of business now, but I'd love to see something like that come out again, in 22 and 17 magnum rimfires. Would probably cost a bit less than an AR variant.

Hmm, guess it's time for me to hit the drawing board again...

The AR-10s were ORIGINALLY in .308. The AR-15 is the derivative.

Right, but they were not commercially made. The new AR-10s were redesigned to use converted M14 mags and use as many AR-15 parts as possible.
But yes, the AR-10 was the original. I have the music from the demo video going through my head now. See it on www.armalite.com
