Question on AR 15- Can you take a AR 15 that is set up to shoot 5.56/233, replace the upper receiver while using the same lower receiver and shoot 243cal? What I'm getting at is I assume you would have to replace the entire upper receiver/bolt/barrel/etc. and different mags but would the lower reciever be able to accept 223 and 243?
Cant say I ever saw a .243 Upper out of all the Calibers available...I would imagine it would be necessary to use the .308 Lower due to the length of the Cartridge...

Kind of figured that but had seen a couple of other forums mentioning similar comments. Read how one feller mentioned the 243 WSSM could be shot through a standard AR 15 lower but would require a complete upper reciever and mags. Sorry but not familar with the 243 (or 243 WSSM) but am looking at getting AR in the near future. I hunt so I'm trying to see if I can have one gun to shoot 5.56/233 for plinking and have ability to switch upper reciever for a deer caliber so gun could be used for both. Of course it may jst come down to 5.56 for plinking and zombies and just stick with the "deer hunting" guns for, well, deer hunting. It's just I keep hearing how you can do SO much with a AR gun.
Someone has made a 6mm version of the 5.56 called the 6 x 45, but it seems a little pointless to me to go up just .02 inch in diameter. You gain a little bullet weight, but the length constraints make it hardly worthwhile. The next biggest round that has any following is the 6.5, and the 6.8 (.270) is pretty popular, too if you want to get a heavier bullet downrange from a basic AR lower.

ARs are becoming more popular for deer hunting, but I would suggest checking with your local regulations regarding magazine capacity and such. There are still a lot of people who get all worked up when they see a gun with an AR profile, more so if it's black.

You're looking for a AR-15 in .243 Winchester cartridge?
DPMS Panther LR-243 or LR-243L, 20 and 18 inch barrels respectively. It also comes in .260 Remington. Both are great for range and hunting. The .243 is cheaper ammo and probably more readily available.
RRA sells uppers for a variety of interesting calibers. The big boy is the .458 SOCOM which can launch anything from 2000 fps 250 grainers to subsonic 600 grainers. It fits a standard lower and magazine, but you can only get about 4 rounds in a 10 round mag. You might also want to think about a recoil pad.

the dpms mentioned is not an AR-15. its theyre version of an ar-10.
id go with one of the 6.5 uppers myself, im not all that thrilled with 110-115 grain pills for deer in 6.8/.277 bore.
