hello- just head out towards wickenberg on grand ave. take a left at Patton rd. drive a few miles- you'll see mounds of dirt off in the desert - they are probably tanks - go for a walk - rabbits should be easy to find - most likely be jack rabbits but hey it's a start !!

Welcome TommyGunn and Elkaholic. I am in Surprise as well TommyGunn, but have still never been hunting yet. Where about are you at in Surprise? My wife and I just recently moved to about Bell and Reems from 51st Ave and Thunderbird in Glendale.

I don't know about the month with R's in them here in Az, I won't eat a rabbit until it freezes hard, where I'm at that can be sometime in late November before we get our first hard freeze. None the less hunting bunnies is fun!!

There is a road that is not marked off the sun valley parkway west of the white tanks at mile marker 118, it is a well graded wide road heading west into the desert. I know the area has been incorporated by buckeye, just wondering if anyone has been down that road and if it is open to hunting and shooting?

Best rabbit hunting would be all the golf courses in the valley!

Hunting in Surprise

I just moved here from Michigan. I'm looking for a place to hunt some Rabbit. Jack Rabbits are fine. Just want to get out and shoot. Not used to having no land and so many people around.

I'm in Surprise. TOO

Talking New State law

Now that the Legislature took away the right for cities to regulate firearms discharge in the city limits for hunting purposes it open up a pile of new close to home spots. its gonna be awesome

Since the new state law took effect that opens up areas close to home i found a place for Jacks if you like stalking. You may need some longer range ammo. I use #4 buckshot with a full choke to go the distance because unless your lucky you probably wont get close. Send me a pm with your email and ill send you the google earth image i have labeled. its state trust and some ranchers will have cattle later on in the year so be careful. I have not figured out how to post a pic from my computer it only asks for a link.

You guys are talking about towns that didn't exist when I was growing up in Buckeye! We were almost an hour from Phoenix, and could just head into the desert and hunt rabbits to our hearts' content. We'd take the fifty gallon galvanized tub we used for bathing, and go out and fill it full of yummy rabbit for a big family fry. I'm afraid I wouldn't recognize the area today! I'm talking about the early fifties, if you're wondering!

http://www.azgfd.gov/regs/mainregs.pdf

Change in the reg's this week. Essentially the rule is shotgun shooting shot when you are hunting undeveloped land in a municipality. No pistols or rifles.
