Polaris Sportsman 500

Here are some pics of my quad. It's a 2004.5 Polaris Sportsman 500 H.O.. I just got done putting the front bumper and brush guards on it and hooking up the plow. Some other mods are: Warn 2.5 winch, ATP Mudlite tires, rear bumper, rack extentions, rack bag, and mount for my Magellan GPS. Now all I need is some snow.

The links worked for me too.

Here's approx 15 days ago with the Polaris MV7. The stock mudrunner tires did ok pulling a heavy 5'x8' trailer loaded with about 1200 pounds. Couple of inclines I had to pull way over to get traction.

littlejoe872 this is my first winch (same as yours) but I dunno I'm just not all that impressed with them. They seem to spool up terrible and they are underpowered. I got 2 snatch blocks to take the strain off the motor. What do you do with yours? Any pics?

Killer,

I haven't had any problems with the Warn 2.5. I try not to get stuck in the first place to avoid the embarassment, however, It does happen from time to time. I pretty much just use the original hook and a tow strap, to go easy on the tree bark. I have had to pull my brother out of a very big water hole at this place called Paragon in PA once, but I just fed out my cable, doubled it back and hooked to a point on my quad where the plow mounts, and winched him in. It kind of worked the same way a winch snatch would have. As for spooling, I typically feed it while spooling so it doesn't bunch up on top of itself. It is a pain, but I just resigned myself to the fact that it can't be helped. I just mounted a front bumper on my quad, so I had to move the fairlead out from the winch mount, to the front bumper. I haven't really used it since I did that, but I did mount the plow on it with it and it seems to work ok. Here's a link to a pic of it with the bumper, and plow mounted. I had to replace the eight post contactor in the wiring for the winch due to a recall for overheating, but that's really the only issue I've had with it. Is the MV-7 a heavier quad than the sportsman? The Sportsman 500 is approximately 800 lbs. Maybe you need to upgrade to the 3.5.

Here is the link to the Warn website regarding the recall. If you got your winch relatively recently, you probably have the newer 4 post contactor, and you don't have to worry about it.

Doh...recall on the winch what the...more good news. I just found out the
MV7 will be a limited edition 2005,2006,2007.

The MV7 is 990 lbs.

I like the MV7 but I liked the Polaris 6x6 I traded in too. Pro's and con's with them both.

Here's the MV7 heading home couple of weeks ago. Haaa all that crap on it and the sled just for one guy for 48 hours. No wonder I need an ATV.

I use the winches for odds and ends but like you say I'm not one to want to get in a position to need it either. Foolish me now that I think about it and the ice probs I had last weekend (see pic posted above) it never dawned on me to use the cable, instead of backing up and and getting a run for it.

Doh and double doh
