This was interesting....

My buddy came into town over the weekend from the Border Patrol Academy. He was telling me about some of the tactics they are forcing upon them in the academy. Mind you, this guy is my old partner and is a TX Department of Public Safety certified firearms instructor.

The Border Patrol (BP) issues the Beretta 96 in DA/SA. He says that they have been shooting for about a month now and that he is concerned with one of their tactics.......We all know that one of the main gun safety rules is to keep your finger off the trigger until you are aready to fire the dang thing. Well, he says that the BP has a little a different take on that. He says that they are being forced to place their finger on the trigger as they are coming up on target, not only that, but by the time they are completely on target, they are told that the hammer should be half way back! That would mean that the trigger should be half way to the breaking point by the time they get on target....

Hmmmmmm......this confused me as well as him.

That's a little frightening... I think I'm going to make a little mental note to fly if I ever go to Mexico!

Yeah....my buddy's having a hard time with it. It goes against everything he ever taught in his firearm course in the past.

I hate to think some law enforcement agency is throwing away the most basic gun safety rule. I don't think I could ever train myself to do that. Doesn't make any sense to me.
