What is your opinion of Baretta?

I have a friend who thinks Barettas are better than both Glocks and Desert Eagles. I disagree. What is your opinion? I would post my thoughts, but I've already given him all of mine, and he still doesn't believe me, so I want more information.

Beretta is a fantastic gun. Since you refer to Desert Eagle and Glock, I am assuming that you are referring to pistols. Berettas are great. But Glocks are great. Israeli Arms (Desert Eagle) are great guns as well..........

What does your friend want to know? And by the way....welcome to the forum!

What does your friend want to know.

Well, we were just discussing which is the better brand of pistol. Actually, it may have been closer to arguing than discussing, and I admit that because it will soon be obvious: I made this post to see if one brand was more commonly liked than the other. Basically, I wanted to see who was right.

I normally don't argue with people over things like this, but I think he is basing his preference mainly on the appearance of the gun, and that bugs me.

Two comments.

1: My buddy has a cheetah. I've shot it and it's a great gun. Easy to shoot and reliable.

2: The US Army carries them. It must be a good weapon.

They're good, I know, but not nessisarily the best. Cost is something the government pays attention to as well.

Agreed Practical...but 75% of American police officers carry Glock...again, must be reliable.....

The rest of that 25& is made up of Sig, Bereta, and "other".......

That's according to my latest propaganda. I wouldn't bad mouth any of the above named lead flingers.

Well I am partial to both the Beretta and the Sig

THe 92F that I have has never jammed in any sort of fashion compared to smut and wesson's that I have shot. If my agency would have let me carry the 92 I would have but I chose the Sig which is just as reliable as the 92. You can't go wrong with a gun from a 492 year old gun manufacturer

Talking I LIKE MY BL-3 O&U

but for handguns of seriousness, 1911 .45 is the only game for me.

Or get a .460 Rowland conversion for the 1911, and make the Delta Elite look like a pop gun.

Well, I carried Beretta for years and had total confidence in it. I had none for Glock.

It makes no difference in which gun is thought the best. Both are good guns. My confidence was based on knowing I would hit what I aimed at with the Beretta.

For example, 1911, which we carried before we changed over to Beretta, is a great gun but I would've been better off throwing the gun at the perp rather than hoping on hitting him.

Are you saying the 1911 is inaccurate, or that you were inexperienced with it and used to the Baretta?

1911 is a difficult weapon to become proficient with. The ergonomics (hey the gun was invented before the word) of the weapon are not near as good as a newer Beretta, Sig, or Glock. The actual weapon is fairy accurate but learning to aim such a HEAVY hangun takes a lot of time.

I personally use a revolver when I want to be accurate (Ruger Security Six) but I also have a Ruger P89 for a semiauto. It's notorious for being inaccurate but I have never been able to hit crap with an auto in my life. I got it because it came with 3 - 15 rd clips, I really need that many chances.

Obsidian,

What I meant was that I was never any good at shooting the .45.

Not sure why.....just wasn't. Therefore, I lacked confidence...not so much with the gun but my own limitations.

And, I'm a firm believer in one premise; if you lack confidence in your weapon, or your ability to use it, it's of little use to you.

But, let me make it clear, in my case it wasn't the quality of the 1911 that was lacking.

P-89... that's not the German WWII gun that looked like a Luger, is it? I was always under the impression that that gun sucked. Sorry, I'm not extremely knowledgable about guns.

I was tearing up the plates at 50ft on the range yesterday with my P-95.

On a more relavent note, I was curious why the Beretta 96 was cheaper than the 92 at the range. The guy said they're just trying to get rid of the thing and nobody wants it. Looked nice, but I like keeping my girlfriend, so I didn't get it.

P89 is a fantastic Ruger (no to be mistaken with Luger) in 9mm. It's a semi auto and is a remarkebly realiable gun.
