Just out of curiosity: Who has first-hand experience with harvesting elk or moose with Nosler's Ballistic Tip - and - how did the bullet perform? Steve P.S. My preference in 30-06 is 180-gr. High Energy Partitions at 2,890 fps or 180-gr. AccuBonds at 2,750 fps. |

Steve I cant tell you about elk but I have shot about 10 or so deer with a 270 win using the 140 ballistic tips with out a problem shots were from around 50 yards to 175 yards. But if I was to use this gun for elk the ballstic tip would stay home and I would use one of your other suggestions for shure. In my 338 win mag the 225 ballistic tip is a tougher made bullet then the 30 cal and under bunch I've fired them into wet phone books with plywood inserts the 338 stayed together far better the the 30, 270 or 25 cal offerings.

Then, in the early 80s, Nosler set out to design a bullet that would combine the accuracy of a match bullet, the reliable expansion and penetration of the Solid Base, and the ability to resist recoil induced deformation in the magazine. The result was the Nosler Ballistic TipĀ®. This hyper-accurate bullet with the colorful, color-coded polycarbonate tip quickly gained favor with deer, sheep, caribou and antelope hunters. from http://www.nosler.com/companyhistory.html |
