| That I couldn't even begin to know AH. But I'd have to agree, it'd have to be dam close. Plus, one would have to wonder, had Winchester not shut down the New Haven plant, and kept making and selling the model 94, how many more would they have sold in not only the 30-30 but any other caliber? Have to be quite a few I'd have to say...

Well I'm not too sure. I think the 30/30 dominated sales for a good 50 years, I know in the mid 50s it was very popular and if I remember right it was brought out just before the turn of the century. Since then i think the 06 has been gaining ground, but the 30/30 had a hughe head start. Also don't forget Winchester wasn't the only one- there are a ton of Marlins out there and Savage.....well just about everybody made a 30/30 at one time or another.. I'd hate to have to live on the difference between sales in these two popular rounds. | |

30-06 is my favorite all around caliber, however I love the low recoil and short action of the .243 for the area's I mostly hunt. When I hunt in east texas I carry my 243. In south texas where long shots are common I take my beloved 30-06. I like them both very much. My choice for only one bah the choice is obvious my favorite over all the 30-06.

I love .30/06! But a good lever action .30-30 is still my favorite.

I have used a few different rifles on deer, 44/40, .223, 30-06, .303 and 22/250.(all legal where I'm from). I have never lost one that I shot at, however there have been a few that I didn't shoot at with the smaller rifles that I could have with the 30-06. I have never used a 30-30, but after last season I reckon it could be a very usefull rifle for heavy timber where the longest ranges would be 50 to 100 meters, not as heavy to carry as a 30-06 or .303 and still with more range and knock down power that the 44, and a lot more ethical than the .22 calibre rifles.

| .257, .270, 7x57, 7/08, .280, .300sav, .308, 30/06, .300saum, .300wsm, 8x57, .356win, .358win, .350rm, and .35w have all put venison into my freezer in the last 5 yrs or so. Of all I consider the .308 as the top pure deer caliber. Can match typical '06 loadings in a s/a using LM loadings. Good deer loadings range from 125-180gr. Shoots plenty flat for most typical deer hunting ranges (MPBR of 275yds with 150gr) and it would be very tough to argue that it's not known as the most accurate of all typical CXP2 rounds. |

I prefer 300 WM. Flat shooting, hits very hard, and I have no problem with the recoil. One shot, One kill, No Chase. Very humane!
