weatherb vanguard .270

I have hunted red deer for a couple of years with my old No5 carbine, but I sold it to my dad ( he collects SMLE rifles ) so now I need a new rifle for next years roar.

I'm thinking of buying a weatherby vanguard in .270. I know that the .270 is plenty big enough for the job I'm not sure about weatherby's quality.

I can get a vanguard with a millet 3-9 x 40 scope and sling for $850 Aussie.

Has anyone used or owned a vanguard and what do the think of them?

The Vanguard is a superb rifle, accuracy is phenomenal, and it is well made.

All the ones I have shot have been good guns. Howa has done a great job with the Vanguard.

I guess I'm the Howa Homer of this forum, and I love 'em, so go for the Vanguard. They seem to be easier to come by than the Howa.

I love the gun, but hate the caliber (this is a 100% bias opinion). I owned a .270 for a few years and never could get it to shoot well. I'm going to say it was a combination of having no faith and the quality of the firearm.

The .270 is plenty big for anything that walks the North American continent. I switched to the 30-06 and haven't looked back, but if you want a .270, then I would definitely get one.

And like I said, the Weatherby Vanguard is an awesome rifle.

Howa makes the Vanguard and it is awesome. .270 should be fine at any distance that is reasonable (which is a relative distance, afterall!)

Bravo, you must have had a fluke. Mine shoots better than my .30-06 Remington.
