That wouldnt work for blacks as they usually get a meal immediatly from inside the body cavity.thats why you should try to bluff them. You are dead if they get you down.Grizzlys, they advise covering your head with your arms and using a fetal position to play dead. When you quit moving they are supposed to cover you and wait for you to tenderise.I,ve never tried this but I hope if I have to someone has explained to the grizzly how he is supposed to behave. sam.

I once heard a joke where a guide was asked what he would do if confronted by a grizzly. "Why, I'd reach back and grab a handfull of cr@p and throw it in his eye's". When asked where he'd get said cr@p, he replied "Don't worry. It'd be there!"

For the $ a 44 super blackhawk is one of the most durable, "used to be" widely carried handguns for guides.

As for the slug comments,
On the show "when animals attack" theres documentation of a grizzly being dispatched with a 12 ga with slugs..
Wish I could find a archive of old "Herters" shows..

I remember a salmon fishing episode where a guide put down a griz with a slug gun. The Guide loaded alternating 00 and slugs.
My favorite was..
A bull elephant charging and George L dumping it with a perfection model 44. The bull fell within yards....
Anything is possible when the right energy is applied..
Timothy Tredwell >man kinds 2 legged bear snacks...........

I spend a lot of time in the Appalachian Mountain so we only have black bears. If you find yourself in a situation without ample firepower it’s always good to carry mace/pepper spray. Spraying a bear with mace overwhelms their extremely sensitive sensory system, almost instantly causing them to turn away.
