Alright guys, I just got a .270 and want to do some wild hog hunting. What do I do? I know that sounds kinda funny, but this will be my first time and I dont know anyone that hunts Hog. Anyone from California that knows where to hunt around here? Any help would be awesome. How to track, how to call, where to go , how to dress (the pig and me) and where to get the meat butchered when I get one. Thanks for your help. |

Looks like that article takes care of the where and how. You will just have to call around your local area to find somewhere that will process the meat for you. If you have never cleaned any type of big game, i would let them thake care of all of it - except that if you shoot a pig in warm weather you need to go ahead and field dress it. Take out the guts and especially the "family jewls" on bore pigs. Pretty straight forward - cut down the center of the belly and take out anything that will come out. BE SURE NOT TO PUNCTURE anything in this area. While on the subject - be sure to shoot the thing in the chest or head. A gut-shot pig will run forever and is really foul if you ever find it. Pigs are tough - be sure the sucker is dead before you walk up to it. The .270 should work fine with any good quality expaning bullet. Have fun! |

Midas and SilverRun covered all the base's so go harvest you a hog. BUT if you can't gut him those family jewels have to come off ( His Balls ) you'll figger it out. I've heard them Family Jewels was Good Eats and Jim Dandy Catfish bait and if you want to sell them theres a feller here that goes by JBS that might buy'em off of you! |
