| Member | Hey I saw that you were looking for places to drop off your hogs, here is a charity that I think does great things, Hunters Harvest Hunter's Harvest, Feeding Hungry People in the Houston Area it is mainly in the Houston area right now, but there are other places in Texas that you can drop off meat at. I am not sure how far any would be from you... Chester |

| Mr. Fixit ![]() | Thanks for the heads-up chester. Houston is about 400 mi. from where I hunt, so it's not really an option. I'm looking into donating the carcasses to the zoo, but can't reach the guy I need to talk to yet. I'd like for them to benefit the homeless or other folks who need the meat, but never thought it'd be so hard to find someone who wants it. I thought maybe the food bank had their own butcher or a processor they worked with-I learned different. BTW, I checked the link and the nearest place is either Midland (150 mi.) or Wichita Falls (145 mi.) and they want the game either processed or skinned and quartered as well. You'd think the folks wanting this free meat would be willing to do a little of the grunt work for it but most of them want you to kill it, field dress it, skin and quarter or pay to have it processed, then deliver it to them. It may be a bit uncharitable, but I think I'm just going to buy a large freezer and give it all to friends and family.

| Member | I knew that the Houston option was going to be to far for you, but I was wondering if any of the other places might not be to far. I know Hunters Harvest works on a very small tight budget and a limited voluniteer schedule for the year, so for them it would not be possible for them to pick up the meat for just that reason. I wish that were not true. |

| Senior Member | I read an article, I think in fur fish and game, about these guys in Fl. that trap the hogs, when they are little, and nuttuer the males. Says it greatly improves the flavor of the meat as they grow older? There were photos of thier traps in the article, and they definately were releaseing the hogs. I think they used a winch to get the traps up onto thier pickup for tranporting them, and then removed them from the traps. figure the least amount of time you have to open the door the better with them. Are you serious about inviteing people to help with hunting them? I would love too come and have a go at it. I don't own any autoloaders, but I am sure my 270 would do a nice job on them. Not much for spot lighting though, my grandfather was holding the spot light when he was younger, and lent his gun to his cousin, his cousin got shot with buck shot, and died the next day. I hunt varmints at night with a light mounted to my hat, with a red lense, guess that isn't much differant. |
