| magazine capacity I was wondering if anyone was familiar with the NC hunting laws regarding the capacity of a rifle or shotgun for deer hunting. Will I need to plug my mossberg? Will I need a 5 round mag for my sks? Thanks for your help! ![]()

| Don't know about the shotgun but, they are talking about rifles holding 5 or less (magazines). |

| In NC, and many other places, you need to plug your shotgun while hunting to limit its capacity to 3 rounds (while bird hunting). As for rifles and shotgun for big game, I'm pretty sure you're allowed 5+1. |

| My state posts firearms regulations on our Department of Wildlife web site. Perhaps NC does too. |

| The county gave me a book on hunting regulations including frearm restrictions, but I saw nothing about magazine capacity.

An example I can offer is this, I bought a Mossberg model 500 many years ago. Stock it can hold 3 + 1 in the chamber. When the plug is removed it can hold 5+1 in the chamber. So if you were hunting with it, the stock configuration 3 + the 1 in the chamber is what should be used. Again, I could be wrong. Case and point, some places just may not want hunting done with an AR, so having even one thats hold 10 may not be excepted. Again, don't take my or anyone else's word for it, check it out on your own. Most wildlife game wardens in your area should be able to answer it. G-Meister

| Super Moderator ![]() | You can use dowels cut to length for plugs in shotguns, some places only allow 2+1 chambered =3, and a proper sized block in an SKS magazine to cut the capacity down for some places it can only be 4 + 1 chambered =5 total. Rich

| Best tactic Contact your state's Fish and Game then feel secure you have the latest information as rules/regulations do change and it is always better to not have a worry of this type situation while hunting. |
