| Mr. Fixit ![]() | Hog trapping I recently entered the world of wild hog trapping. My FIL has a half-section of farm-land that is being destroyed by feral hogs. There is another guy trapping out there and he's hauling off as many as 10 pigs\trip using nothing more than corn and milo for bait. I'm using an old trap that was left on the property but wasn't designed very well. I reworked the trigger system so the 'coons wouldn't set it off, but I'm 45 miles from this location. I'm thinking of using an attractant but there are quite a few to choose from. I've tried soaking corn in diesel, but the 'coons still ate it. Long story short, what is the best attractant that you guys have PERSONALLY used? I've tried a few baits to no avail. For some reason, it seems like these guys are going right around my trap to one of the others while the 'coons flock to mine to eat all of the corn.

| ferment corn in water. pour it in a shallow pan and around on the ground in the trap. our s. fl. ho0gs like it and the coons dont seem to. even if they eat the corn the stinky water still attracts the hogs. we also use old restruant cooking oil. we dig a shallow hole and pour it in soon the pigs will make it a deep hole.

| What happens to the Hogs once they are captured, they can be reprogramed and become demesticated and sold at auctions. I'm just curious, Im not an animal rights activest I've seen the destruction wild Hogs can do. Wild hogs eat dead animals so use a shot hog for bait. YUK!! |

| Mr. Fixit ![]() | I'm gonna pick out a nice lil' 350-400 pounder for you to play with billy! Maybe we could train it so you could ride it around the deck of our pirate ship, then we could give you a cool nickname like "Pork Chop Billy" Quote:

My latest concoction is 25 lbs of corn\2-40 oz. bottles of the cheapest beer I could find (Old English 400)\ 1\2 gal of Hog Wild attractant. This lovely mix has been sitting in a covered tub for about three weeks now and it smells, ahem, "delectable". ![]()

| Hey toolman after 4 weeks of trying to trap hogs my neighbor and I gave up. It was my neighbors idea so he built a nice trap that we checked every afternoon. The corn we put out was being gobbled up by coons so someone told him to lightly spray diesels on the corn. That didn't work either. I noticed the other day he brought the trap home so I ask him if he's given up and he said the hogs have moved out and it's warming up. We'll try again next fall. Any tips would be appreceiated and what does cherry jello do ? |

| Mr. Fixit ![]() | A.H., you can't give up that easy. Try fermenting some corn or milo in beer it and burying in a hole underneath the trap. Also keep in mind that hogs are nomadic and it may take several weeks for them to move back into the area. We've gone months with no hog sign at all and then out of the blue, had a trap full of 'em.

| We trap several dozen some months and zero other months. You just have to check weekly for hog sign and when you see it, set the trap and bait it. If you go checking and baiting it every day then you are just wasting your time. Best bait I have seen is fermented corn or any type of melon scraps. Certain other veggie scraps work well also especially squashes. Havent had any coon problems but we havent ever just set out plain corn either and yes there are plenty coons around here. If you have a garden or a large melon farm nearby then you should have all the free bait you need. We sell them. There is one licensed buyer in OK. He is in Velma and he pays .65/lb for hogs 251 and up. 101-250 he pays .32 and hogs 51-100 he pays .16 but nothing for the little ones. He also gives a per hog fee similar to a bounty fee ranging from 5-15 bucks each depending on size. He sells them to a meat packing facility that slices/dices and packages the meat for sell in southeast Asia. Something to do with eating wild hog meat makes you a manly man or something like that. We do not sell to anyone that has any intention of releasing them. Biggest paycheck for the month was 1600. One could just almost make a living on this. |
