Sweed scores , love my 6.5 x 55

I am a happy kamper today, Got in the stand right at day light and the turkeys came by. The wind was blowing fierce , I started to give it up but decided to go till about 10;00 . Kermit was in the high ground stand , 2 been killed from that one this year. About 9;30 or 45 I heard one coming off the far creek bank, I picked up the binoculars and he stuck the bones through the trees. Nice rack 8 point good g 2's symetrical looking . He crossed the creek and turned left , broad side shot . Up came the mouse gun , he then decided to go right , another broadside at about 90 yds. He then took 3 or 4 steps and stopped behind a bush , I could see his head and neck very good. Pulled the Sweed on his shoulder for a shot at the neck, front shoulder junction and squeezed it off I could see most of the neck . He took off like a rocket. Thought I had clean missed , but one or 2 jumps up the bank and he rolled back down only a few feet from the last year kill. I called Kermit and climbed down the tree , waded the creek and K ermit helped field dress it . I missed the shot I wanted by about 2 inches down and 2 inches back but it was still a good shot We loaded him in the truck and went to the check in sta. , then on to Va. to dress him out.
The rack is very nice almost the same on both sides . I think I will mount this one.

Kermit came back , we moved his stand and he hunted for about 2 more hours then called it quits. Tomorrow is another day. We will hit the woods at daylight again. The load was 42 gns N150 , 100 gn bal tip . Worked well for me. The lung and heart were destroyed and the bullet did not exit.

the 6.5 x 55 is an awesome round, little more than a 243 less than a 270

Flat shooting though out to long distances. Good penetration to due to the long bullet. Ive been thinking about buying one of these or a 260. rem

Good shootin, had almost the same luck with my own 6 and a half. Even 6 broadside in a full run at 80 yards, he took a round through the heart and was dead by the time i got to him. I did some looking around to find a good deer round that wasn't a shoulder-cracker so I'd be able to get enough range time in and decided the Swede was it. The low recoil is amazing, especially for a rifle that will take down an elk(so I've heard). Long range shooters like the .264 caliber because it is such a long and skinny round, the ballistic coeffecient makes the bullet able to buck the wind better, also it penetrates very well. I think handloading makes a big difference too. Anyways good shootin Giturgun
