So do I Samuel. Bullets do best at between 2,400-2,600 fps. when they hit there intended victim. At least that's what I've read.

.338 Federal...... you get a .338 wound channel with the recoil of a -06. I have to agree with akhunter on the range issue. Even though I have never hunted grizz, I have hunted Moose, elk and black bear. The way I look at it, you owe it to a big tough animal to correctly place your shot. A 700 yd shot is a great shot on paper, a 700 yd shot on a bear is bad judgement in my opinion.

Red face

Hey I have always wanted to take a grix, rather a coastal browny but things haven't worked out as yet. But I have to agree that whith the right heavy bullit the 300Rum would be great. I also believe that the long range shooting of big game is counter to the sportsmans code. Don't get crazy you long range guys, while in the service of uncle/Marines I made a 775 head shot on a good day. But as I have aged parts don't work like they once did, HA! Shooting at bad guys and you miss or wound is , well who really cares? Clipping a deer, wounding a elk, or gut shooting 700lbs of really pissed griz is a really bad day!! 25 years ago my uncle use a custom 300 Weatherby for all his elk hunting with the old thick skined led cored Barns 225 bullet. It would break both shoulders on any bull elk at 25 ft or 200 yds. My uncle was a conservationest, hunting was a religon to him and losing a animal was not part of hunting! So load that RUM use a heavy bullit and good luck. "WINDAGE & ELIVATION" Doc.

Don't score me on spelling Moma did'nt whoop me enough, HA! (that was GRIZ not GRIX) Doc
