After firing his entire 20-round box of factory ammo at a 25-yard target, with no perceptible result, he said he was ready for his brown-bear hunt. Only thing I can figure is, his bullets were merely denting the paper. I hope the bears were not so tough. I asked him to make me beneficiary on his life insurance. He didn't think that was amusing. Half the fun going to range (sometimes) is watching the gomer's.

If your are talking about the Steve Hornady comment it is in a video on the Hornady website, if you shoot the target to watch a video as it says on the home page you will be able to access it from there after you click a few other links.

I have had a number of European clients bring the 9.3x74 on safari for Buffalo.

IMHO, it is not adequate for Buff. Entry level power for Buffalo should be a 375 H&H, with a 416 being very much superior to the 375.

You can kill Buffalo with a 375, however, a 416 just knocks the c**p out of them.

When clients ask me for recommendations of cartridges to bring on a long safari, I recommend a 338 Winnie and any of the 416's (338 with 250 grn. bullet and the 416 with 400 grn. bullets).

JMO

Best,
Phil

Phil,

Thank you for your informed observation. I have never hunted anything bigger or meaner than an elk. However, if I did, I hope I would have the sense to develop some skill with the biggest, most powerful rifle I could reasonably handle.

Are the 416s adequate for elephant?

Any of the 416 are perfectly adequate for Ele's . . . . . . . . . . . . . . in 99.9 % of the situations you run into.

The 416's are very nice for all the DG (dangerous Game).

Best,
Phil

Phil,

I have heard it is illegal to handload ammunition in some African countries. Is this true?
