I'll take it a step further, Ed. These new, lighter, rifles...........I never compared rifle weights when purchasing one. If you can't carry 8.5 to 9.5 pounds of rifle in the field, maybe you should get up off your dead azz and workout a little more! Jeez, I'm just getting old and cranky! LOL!

Nope, I'll go one step further Bro Bob and say it's "Older and less prone to listening to B.S. without calling it B.S."...lol. Am I clear on that?

I'm not recoil sensitive though I have No Interest in shooting Elephant guns LOL .

I've got a 70's moldel 870 that when I shoot it, it's not the kick thats bad it knocks the coon dog chit out of my right jaw !!!
And it hurts !
None of my other shotguns or rifles do that BUT I think about it when I shoot someone else's gun.
Other wise Recoil is not a factor with me either...A.H

Do you shoot slugs in it? Cause I feels your pain....lol.
The first big game hunting I ever did was deer hunting in a shotgun only area. I don't remember anyone mentioning the term recoil when I touched off my first 12ga 1oz slug in a 6 lb (less maybe?) single shot shotgun. I couldn't wait to inherit my Dad's Ithaca model 37 (lightweight) pump and also used a Franchi (lightest 12 semi-auto on the market) in those early years. That's gettin' thumped! A .350 Rem mag is like a rimfire compared to them. The last really stout recoil I encountered was my 12ga over .308 shooting Rem 12 ga Buckhammers. The onliest thing what got hammered was MOI! As are most things in life "Everything is relative".

I have a .35 Whelan on a Mark X action and a .338-06 on a 1968 Model 70. Both are Ackleys. Neither is a particularly hard kicker. The .338 kicks harder because it has a lighter barrel. You can choose your barrel weight when you have the rifle built to help control this. But they are hunting rifles. How many rounds will you shoot? Ten at a range session is a lot for me. I may fire my service match rifles 80-100 rounds at a session.

Both are sufficiently accurate for elk hunting. I like the bullet selection in .338 better. Both are a bit much for deer.

LOL! Yes Sir, Ed! Give me a wood stock, blued barrel, and a 24 inch barrel. 26 inch for magnums. 8.5 to 9.5 pounds and I'm happy. Maybe in Alaska, I'd go with a synthetic stock and a stainless steel receiver and barrel. I don't know, but I'm beginning to warm to the plastic looking stuff. Someone just needs to remind me that they're functional. LOL!
