Help me out with this...

So I am watching ESPN outdoors this morning and Tom Miranda draws a Utah mountain lion tag right? He calls up this hotshot guide with snowmobiles and some fine hunting dogs. He tells Miranda to hang tight while he tracks a big cat in a series of valleys and finally gets his dogs to tree a big ol' tom. He calls up Miranda and tells him where he is, and an hour or so later he shows up and there the dogs are barking at a big lion 20' up in the branches. Tom Miranda pulls out his bow and circles the tree looking for the best shot and then plugs the cat in the belly with an arrow from 20' below. Cat falls and dies. Tom Miranda thanks the guide and then celebrates like he is some kind of brave hunter.

What he did was stick around until someone else put a mountain lion in a virtual cage then, then snowmobiled over there and shot him from point-plank in that cage. How does anybody find any sport in that?

I am not anti-hunting by any means, but that just wasn't hunting. It was a rich guy shooting a beautiful captive animal for what was the best I can tell just for the sake of shooting an animal. If he was the one that did the tracking and personally treed the cat I would think differently, but he did absolutely nothing except take a beginner's shot after someone else did all the work. Please help me understand how this is sport?

I LOVE TO HUNT !!! That being said, I watched the same show this morning. Wasn't overly impressed. I have also watched the same fella snowmobile all over the North Pole (well looked like it anyway) to shoot a Musk Ox. Enuff said, I reckon.

Thumbs down

ACfixer that is not what real hunters do and it is NOT condoned by those of use who love the sport of hunting, after all hunting is not always killing and what miranda did was out right killing for the fun of killing and if this is the kind of person that his sponsor's wish to sponsor then each of us who is a true hunter should write him and his sponsor's and inform then that we will not be buying any of their products. Just my opinion and i will be writing him and his sposor's

THANK you guys, I love hunting and fishing and the outdoors in general and sure didn't want to come off as a tree-hugger or anything... That animal wasn't food, wasn't posing a threat to people, crops, or livestock and the bottom line is he didn't hunt it, he just shot it. There is a huge difference between what a real hunter does and that crap.

Exactly Billy. Let me see him fight that cat with a handful of knives, now that would impress me.

Are you sure this happened? I am asking because it is illegal.

I'm as sure as I can be after watching that show this morning soonerborn, unless it was edited to appear to be something it wasn't. Here's the link: Tom Miranda | Territories Wild

By the way, I wrote Mr. Miranda at tom@tommiranda.com and told him what I thought of the "hunt". His response was (and I quote) "Glad you liked the show. Thanks for watching ESPN.. Tom Miranda"

Obviously a bot response.

Soonerborn: those items in the law sure leave loophole for interpretation there. He WAS an original member of the hunt and he did hold the tag, but how much participation he did in the actual hunt appeared to be little or none. Gotta remember it is TV and things get edited for a time slot but if that's the case they sure did a piss-poor job of making look anything other than "canned".

I wrote Mr. Miranda and he returned with a message accusing me of being a bunny hugger and other very unfalttering remarks, the dialog is on going, I will let you know how it ends.
