Moose hunting the Scandinavian way

Man I wish I had a moose puller like that. I'll be trying for my third moose this October in Vermont and that moose puller looks like it could make pulling one out a dream.

Just came home from the range today after a little control shooting. Seems like everything is in order. There are 10 shots in there... Points read to the right (X = 10 points...). Yu-huu!

Range: 100 meters, 300RUM, sitting position with no support (like hunting...).

Nope! Got me one of those "shooting straps" that you wrap around your palm and upper arm. It worked very well and I will definitely bring it when I go hunting from here and on!

I'm sighting in my .300 Winmag next week. I'll post my target. I'm going for a 200yd zero with 150gr bullets. I'll be shooting off of a bipod attached to the front sling swivel.

Here is my hunting buddy Mike and the 400+ class elk he shot last week in Idaho. Estimated weight at 1300lbs. He had to buy two more coolers for all the meat.

Is this what your moose look like? The target you showed looked more like a elk.

It's the official target for tests. It's a reindeer. Choosen because this is an alround test that goes for all deer and moose.

Our moose is genetically the same as in the US/Canada, but it is not as big as their relatives "over there" due to lack of natural selection/pray.

A MoosePuller ??? And here I been carrying them out on My Back all these Years !
( In Pieces of Course ! LOL)
We are not allowed to tear up the tundra and must remain on Trails here...
On a side note ,I fish as well and here is a picture(#5) where I made the NAFC Magazine with my Halibut !

Better a "moose puller" with wide belts, than a tractor with wheels!
We're not hunting in "the wild" or protected areas. These forrests are cultivated, and have been for two hundred years. Actually, this is one of the reasons we have such a large moose population. They thrive in these sorts of woods.

I was supposed to join another moose hunt a few hours from home today + tomorrow, but had to cancel because I don't have enough people to work for me this week (trade fair coming up). But from October 5th there's nothing to stop me! I'll be out there the whole week for sure!

We just got our final quota this Friday. A total of 7 animals, and we're six hunters in our team. We get to take 3 bulls, 2 cows and 2 calves. And there's this huge bull walking around in the south of our terrain, according to several who've seen it!

Costs...
Not that I like to talk about it, but this ain't cheap. I've paid = 750 USD in advance as my share. Since we sell a lot of the meat I get some of this back, depending on how much meat I take home myself. 7 moose is a heck of a lot of meat, even for 6 hunters! Then I've paid my share of the cabin rental = 200 USD, but then I can use it all year round, bring the kids and use it as my own. Nice! The "moose puller" was a hard one. We split the bill in 6 shares, and I've put down = 1500 USD in that. But that's hopefully a long term investment, which I may get back if I pull out... As if I ever will!

Now just how MUCH meat is all that??! Can you sell some of it to cover the costs, or does the land owner take a share? How much did you pay each for all of those tags??

Antelope weigh less than 40 kilos so not much meat there. Most tags are left-over tags for residents which are like 15 dollars each. Non resident pay $245 for a three tag license, 1 buck, 2 doe kinda thing. Backstraps and hind quarters are all the meat off an antelope. Very little in the front shoulder since that's where we usually hit them with the shot, or right behind the shoulder.

Kick started this fall's first frosty morning with scaring off 3 moose from my garden!
A cow + 2 calves. They sure wrestled some branches and threes on their way off!! Dog almost took off. Got to him a second too early, thanks a lot! Those moose mothers ain't much fooling around with!
