A moose Butt is 2 ft wide , so judging by that picture that is a full grown moose 8 ft. tall at the hump and appx 60+ inches across the rack...estimated weight 1600 lbs...Over 1000 lbs of Meat !
Go get him ! LOL

It's been photo shopped. Someone sent it to me and I just about shit. No shadow on the road from it so it's gotta be fake.

There has been alot of speculation that it was photoshopped. I've seen this on other sites and the picture has supposedly been taken everywhere from Nova Scotia to New Brunswick to Alaska and now Maine. Something doesn't add up with this picture.

Well, I'm glad if it's photoshopped, sort of... First I would crap in my pants if I ever met a moose that big. Second, it will make my first moose tiny... We don't want that, do we??!

Anyways, finally got off into the woods today. We had moose in front of the dog on every pass, but they all turn away from our line. The wind came from all around, so I guess we just weren't lucky. On the last pass I walked alone and at least got close enough to hear moose, but the woods was to dense for me to see them. Well, season lasts until November 15th, no problem! We have 7 moose to shot before then! Also there are 17 available red deers to shoot. First come - first served! That's for the whole district, and chances are they'll only get around to shoot 3-4 of them. They are dificult to get close to around here.
More to come!!

Well, well, well... So far we haven't been so lucky with our moose hunting. We've put down one calf the whole week. That's all. But the season doesn't end until November 15th, so I guess we'll fill our quota before then. I've been learning a lot this week. We use one guy with a tracking dog (leached), and have the other 5 guys on posts in the terrain. wind drift is relevant, as well as positioning in the rugged terrain. We cannot cover a lot of ground with just 5 guys, so we have to make qualified(?) guesses on where the moose will come. That's pretty hard since we are all new to this terrain! I've had the best record with the dog so far. My first three tours gave a full chase with the moose. Now if only those critters had it in them to run straight for the guys on posts, but nooooo! Running around in circles is more their style. And they find steep hills and stroll straight up, and down, and up again, and down, and up again, and down... After the third hill my legs feel like jelly. Today I chased a cow with a calf for 90 minutes until they decided the neighbouring terrain could be more safe (wrong...), and crossed the border just 15 feet behind my parked car... The other day I chased a pretty large bull for nearly two hours when he finally went straight for one of our post, and I thought "NOW!" But no. Some 150 feet from the guy he smelled him and turned 90 degrees to the right, and "vanished" from this earth... The second day of the hunt I had my first tour with the dog ever, and what a debut! I managed to track down and come very close to a young female (1 1/2 year). But she was hiding partly behind a bush with only her head and arse showing. I had a 140 pulse rate after running up a hill with the dog, and I also had my right foot on the dog leach to keep her from charging the moose. So I couldn't move...
Well, to bad so far. But We ain't quitting just because we are learners! We ARE learning, and we are getting better by the day!!! Tomorrow is another hunting day!

Reidar

Wow! You guys got camoflage in Norway? Haha. We're out here hunting antelope and are 0 for 4 on the stalks. Winded once and busted three times. Just too many eyes in a wide open terrain. One broken rifle scope and one broken side window of our vehicle. Got a new scope and gotta sight it in before huntin this afternoon. Plastic and duct tape fixes the window until we get back to civilization. Pics later.

Another day with zero kills... But we had moose around three of our stands, at the same time! We believe we have at least one BIG bull fooling with us in our terrain. I had a really heavy bull around my post today. You know the sound of a half rotten log in the swamp, ALMOST carrying your weight, when it snaps as you put the last pressure-of-no-return from your foot as you walk? I heard him from some 200 yds away as he walked off in the bog...
We have learned a lot this week, and we are also getting smarter... Now we have to go back to work until next weekend. I think I will sleep over in one of our posts, to be there when light breaks without having to make any noise to get in there. Every morning we find new tracks all over the place. It's about 25F at night now, so everything is frosen in the morning. Fresh tracks are easy to spot. We have 5 more animals on our quota. I am confident we will get them before season ends! But it will take some hard work...

By the way, the first day of the hunt 65 moose was shot in our district + 2 red deer. Today, after one week, 106 moose has been taken of a total quota of 168. Where as you know, our team has 7 of them. Hunting moral is very high. There hasn't been a single incident of wounded animals reported in the past two years. The hunters are good at holding back their shots until they are certain to get a clean kill. This is a team activity, and to wound an animal with a badly chosen shot is really to loose face in front of the others.
One curiosity happened yesterday though. One hunter was attacked by an angry bull! His team had already shot their quota of bulls fir this year, so the bull wasn't even shot at. But he killed it in self defence, at 6 feet, when the bull charged him another time... One of our guys saw the hunter's wounds, and he looked like he'd been boxing with Mike Tyson and lost! Anyways, the "excuse" for exceeding their quota was accepted, and one bull will just be withdrawn from next years quota. They got to keep the meat too of course.
