Funny, there are those on this site who have said that there .300 Super Mega Whiz Bang Magnum is all they need for hunting anything in the world, including elephants! Big mean animals don't read ballistics charts, and the bigger hole you can punch in them, the better.

I am torn on the issue of paid hunting trips. I can't afford them, and that hurts. If I could, I would love to hunt Moose, I don't know about grizzley, but I have tried hunting black bear locally with not luck. I would also like to go and hunt hogs, and to do it, I would have to travel. I have no trophies, though I do have a pair of wood ducks mounted, and a nine point buck, bleached not taxidermied. They are for memories, not so much to show, though I am proud of them, and love to watch my children stare at them. Toolman, I don't think you are a jerk, you often write good replies. was actually a little shocked by your view on the traveling to hunt. |

If you will notice, the guy's hunting Africa with .45-70's and such usually have 3 or 4 men behind them with BIG stoppers, just in case something goes wrong. I'd certainly want the guy next to me to have a rifle he could hand to me in a jiffy.

Forest, maybe I didn't state my original intent correctly, the point I was trying to make is, someone living in a village in Africa goes into danger anytime he leaves his home. It just seems a bit wrong to me to talk about how "going into harm's way"when it took $4000, 6 connecting flights, and a three hour jeep ride to be "in harm's way".

I personally would love a Grizzly hunt. The only thing I can think of that might be better is an African lion hunt. I wouldn't relish the thought of eating either of them, although I love black bear meat. Toolman, I owe you an apology for calling you that. My emotion got the best of me.

I still think the correct gun for grizzly bear is a 120mm Abrams tank cannon. Seriously. I have no urge at all to tangle with Mister Grizz. But if I ever found myself in his territory, I'd want a .44 Magnum on my belt as a backup, and something like a .416 Rigby or maybe a Barrett .50 BMG with a good scope on it as my longarm. But that's only because a tank cannon is a little too heavy to lug around with you. |
