Best 3 shot group from a factory gun shoot off

This thread should follow the same basic rules as the "Factory Gun Shoot off".

Best 3 shot group from a Factory Gun .243 caliber or larger

Hunting ammo not target ammo should be used

please show gun and give details of loads used be they factory loads or handloads.

state the price range of the gun. < $500, $500-$1000, more than $1000

These groups may not be typical of the guns, but don't we all like to brag a little?

Very Impressive Indeed !!! BUT It's not uncommon "today" to buy a rifle that shoots that good. Praise the Lord !!!

My Hawkeye shoots just like this one and I hear other brands will do it.

Is'nt that wonderful you can by a rifle reasonable priced and it's very acurate.

This shot group is pretty typical of what I get out of my gun. I was going to post it in the other thread ^ but I was using several different types of ammo to see which grouped the best. By time I figured out that the first I used was the best grouping, I was down to just three more rounds!!! And wal mart is out of them.

Price range: less than $500 ($360 scoped, and the scope and mounts were replaced)
Gun: Marlin XL7 270 Winchester
Scope: Nikon Monarch w/ BDC 5X20-50 Set on 14X
Ammo: Federal Power Shok 130 grains ($20 box)
Group size: 0.67 (15/16" outside to outside minus .27)
Weather: 61 degrees; light breeze; humidity around 70% (wasn't able to check humidity till later)

Edit: Oh, and it hates, and I mean 3 MOA hates the new Winchester Power Max's

For any rifle less than $1500, it's dang difficult to beat the Marlin XL-7 & XS-7. Much less keep up.

Marlin's made a totally superior rifle for $300...why bother with anything else?
Wood stock? Add another hundred...

Even more interesting that the stocks are Factory pillar-bedded Remmy 700ADL types

(Hold 'em side-by-side, you'll notice the extreme similiarity)

I'd say that the hookup with Remington did Marlin some good

And they've all got to be happily surprised that Marlin has passed along some very nice cost-cutting measures to help Remmy's bottom line. I hope they all keep sharing info & tech reports

Big Shrek, I've never said anything before, but now, yeah, I see it, you get kickbacks from Marlin!!! You've gotta.

On the serious side, they are great guns. And the pro-fire trigger is pretty nice! No need for an aftermarket trigger or even a trigger job.

I don't have a pic to go with it but, I have a S&W 1500 in .270 Win (made by Howa) that shot a 3 shot group with one kidney shaped hole at 100 yrds. Was about 9/16" end to end. That was off sandbags with a 57 gr. Handload 130 Nosler SPBT, with a 3.5x10x40mm Bushnell Sportview scope. Was on a hot dry mid Aug day before the deer opener in the lowcountry. Paid $250 for the gun used - less than $500 new for sure.

Though I don't own a Marlin XL-7 I am so proud of Marlin. We had a member here who claimed you get what you pay for and had an attitude, which I took as you have to spend a lot of money to get the kind of accuratcy the XL-7's and Savages are produceing.

He even called me a Troll for calling his hand LOL But here's the proof !!!

Factory stocks are fine, but not aftermarket ones.

6MM or bigger because that is generally considered the minimum calibers suited for deer sized critters. Besides, would it be fair to shoot a 12 pound 223 against a 7 pound 308 or 270? LOL.

Well then I apologize for postin my pic on the other thread. I guess I was a bit confused between the two. I ask that the moderators remove it from the other thread if possible, since it belongs here, not there.

Anyway, here is my "braggin group" from my Marlin 30-30. Leverevolution ammo @ 100yds. Tasco 1.5-4.5x32 scope.

Here is the full target pic. I fired 5 shots total while I was sighting in. 1st shot was low so I moved the scope up, 2nd shot a little better, moved scope up more; then the third shot was 3" high (where I wanted it to be) so I fired two more for group and was admittedly shocked at the result. Still am.

SgtD, that's some mighty fine shooting from a lever-gun!!! I haven't tried the Leverevolution rounds through my Marlin 336 since I've got my 270 now, I figured if I needed the extra yardage shots, I'd just use it and keep my Marlin for brush.

I was asking b/c I have a model 70 Stealth II that I hunt with but it is chambered in .223 WSSM it is by far my most accurate rifle, but since it is not 6mm...... Dam......

Thanks. Yeah, I have three bolt rifles and can usually get two out of threee touching, but I have never had all three touching with any of my rifles until now. A believe it was a mixture of good ammo and some luck as well. I have often shot moa groups with handloads in this Marlin, but never this tight until I tried the Hornady stuff.
