New Idea's coming to the site!

Posted 06-09-2009 at 11:14 AM by Chris
Constantly I bounce ideas of people and I think about them sometimes months at a time. I have a notebook I carry with me sometimes, that is just packed full of ideas and ideas that will just have to wait. Here is a list of a few things that I'm hoping to get started in the month of July!
------------------------------
Focusing on Firearms
------------------------------
My goal is to offer interesting firearm related content without a lot of clutter and unrelated garbage.
Hopefully starting in July, we will begin a Firearm of the month. FOUR solid weeks of intense articles, pictures, interactive quizzes, prizes, and great discussions on a topic we all love.
To give you an example:
One month we may do a month on shotguns!
Week one we may focus on pump shot guns, their history, post a few pictures or even ask for you to post a pic of you and your favorite shotgun!
------------------------------
Gun and Game Talk Show
------------------------------
Something I also want to start along with this is a "Fireside Chat". This will be an online radio broadcast hopefully about 10-15 minutes where you get to listen to me talk about a few things that I believe we should be made aware of. New legislation, new products coming out, new features on the site, or just basic F.A.Q.'s.
------------------------------
Focusing on the members
------------------------------
So many people focus on the post count of others to judge their "knowledge" about a topic. That makes it really hard to know if the person usually posts in the powder keg or humor forum and just decides one day to step into a specific forum. For years, I've attempted to get a "Discussion Leader", "Advisor" and "Member of the Month" club started. My hope over the last month is to have studied and created the right software to make all of this happen.
------------------------------
Building the brand
------------------------------
The only way to grow Gun and Game further I feel is to really brand the site. Give it an identity that will help others start to identify G&G as the great firearm resource it is. I will begin to search talented artists to help come up with better layouts, and a logo that can really help G&G grow.
The logos that we will use, will be placed on t-shirts, mouse pads, and other things to be given out as prizes.
------------------------------
As the site grows
------------------------------
As the site continues to grow, the demand for quality servers grow as well. One of my main goals is to keep advertisements to a minimum. This keeps the site looking cleaning and clutter free. While this also hinders some of our abilities to add new features, it shows that we aren't here to make "profit", but more concerned with the experience of the user. We do offer a $10 a year membership that greatly helps defray the cost of the dedicated server.
If you haven't please consider becoming a "contributing member".

Sounds great. I especially like the idea of duds with the G&G logo.
