My I Hate Tourists Rant

Posted 07-22-2008 at 08:35 PM by TexasT
So, as everyone knows the tropical storm is now approaching the coast. It won't hit my area head on, but we are still having rains and wind. Do crappy weather conditions stop the tourists from coming and crowding the streets? Nope. Their dumb arses are out there swimming in the turbulent water and rain. No doubt one of them is going to get sucked in by a rip current and pulled to sea. There isn't just one or two people swimming in the rain/turbulent water, it's hundreds of them! Does anybody have any common sense anymore? Yeah it might be their vacation but they need to put their safety above swimming in dirty water with God knows what has been brought in from sea.

The reason it really pisses me off that they're here is because if the residents of this area had to evacuate, they'd be here impeding the process. There are already enough people in the Houston area that have to evacuate if something does occur, and we don't need extra people who don't know the hurricane routes to slow us down and keep us from getting to safety quickly.

I also hate that they drive 20 miles under the speed limit. Not everybody's a tourist, and some of us would like to get to and from work in less than 30 minutes, especially if you only live 5 miles away. Posted speed limit is 35, there's no need to drive 15mph. It's ok to drive the speed limit. Part of the reason they drive so slow is because they're looking for parking on the seawall. Doesn't help that 4/5 don't know how to parallel park so they back in and out of the driving lane, slowing down traffic.

The last reason I hate tourists is that they think the whole world is their sidewalk. They have no regard for busy streets. They directly into traffic without looking, or they don't watch their kids closely enough and they dart into traffic. It's their vacation and they feel they can do whatever they want, but they really should utilize the look left, right, and left again rule before moseying into the street. Last time I checked car > pedestrian. Maybe they think they have super powers and can't be hit by a car.

I lied, one last thing. They crowd all the grocery stores, especially walmart, and it takes forever to get through a checkout line. In the winter I can go in and out as I please without my precious ice cream melting while I wait in line.

Ok, I'm done.

Walmart. I never get that. Somebody explain it to me.

What? They don't have a Walmart where they live? They think they're gonna find something "different" at a "different" Walmart? Did they forget to pack their toothpaste? Fine. Get your Colgate and GTFO!

And banks. Jeeze. I try to swing by the bank to deposit my check. (No, I don't have direct deposit. The company I work for will only "direct deposit" your check IF you bank at their bank. No thank you.) Anyways, I'm in the bank and this Floridiot wants to know his last five transactions on his debit card. Then he wants to know his balance. Then he wants to make a withdrawal of $40 !! $40? WTF??

It's called an ATM !! There's a gdamn big one right outside in the parking lot. It does all that. Welcome to 2008. 40 damn dollars. I can't get over that. Hit the "cash back" button at Walmart when you bought your Colgate. Damn.

Glad you found that humorous. Allow me to vent some more...

I deal with tourists 365. Floridiots in the summer and college kids in the winter.

Restaurants:
It's a Subway. Same menu, different state. No, there is nothing "exciting and new" here. It's a Subway. Get your usual "Italian BMT on white bread toasted" and move your ass! I have a life as well, and I'm busy living it. No, I don't give a damn your grammy lived in Kentucky. Guess what, Sunshine...this isn't Kentucky. AND NO, I don't have an "Kentuckian" accent. I have a Southern accent. Obviously I know every single damn person that has evah lived in the South. Yes, I went to high school with your cousin. Jimmy, right?

Restaurants V.2:
College kids rant. It's an Outback Steakhouse, not a bar. I'm sorry you don't want to "hang with the locals" at one of our local honky tonks. I'm sick of trying to have a decent meal with my kid and baby momma while sitting beside tards. Mussy haired, loud, cargo short wearing, flip-flop wearing dolts. Trim your toenails. Damn. Feet are gross. I don't want to see nasty dude feet while I'm eating.

PS. I wear A&F cargo shorts. I love 'em. But, I don't wear sandals. The last man to wear sandals and be cool was Jesus.

//rant. Seriously. I hate tourists.

Me too! Apparently they bring of revenue, but they need to learn a few simple rules. I hate the restaurant thing too. Especially when it's seat yourself. They act like they've never seen tables before. Let's not even talk about how much they litter.

One of the pleasures I had when I worked at Ft. Benning was during spring break every year when the students would be heading to Panama City. At least twice a day I'd run into a car load lost as whores in church and I'd tell them to simply "follow the telephone van".
If you've never been to Columbus, GA or Ft. Benning, the interstate stops at the entrance to the post and while it's free access, the road takes you right past the firing ranges, the airfield and into the woods before coming out on the road to Panama City.
I could see the looks on their faces as we drove past weapons fire and under Blackhawks only to be surrounded by troops in full gear out on an afternoon march. By the time they got to the road and off post, they were usually white as sheets.
Sometimes I miss that job.

We don't get tourist. Not anymore anyway. Being the home of Stuckey's candies and an International Bird sanctuary isn't that big a deal now. I never understood how it was. I have seen the walmart thing. There are these weird people who like to visit different walmart stores and compare them. There was this one Kentucky girl who said the happiest day in her life was when walmartS< (notice s) moved in down the street. Not when she didn't graduate, not when she didn't get her GED, not when her nephew was born, but when walmartS came to town. She and her family go to our walmart every day. They drive 25 miles to get here. Sometimes they visit the ones in Douglas,Eastman,Dublin and Hazlehurst all in the same day. After Katrina we had a bunch show up from LA they seemed to congregate at walmart too. Kinda reminded me of zombies. I guess walmart is a familiar place and they find comfort there.

We get bass fishers, in GRove, in the summer, and talk about frustrating! The main road through Grove goes to a fifty mph speed limit, once it gets thru downtown, but they drive twenty five, regardless. By the time they get to the bridge, the have a hundred or more vehicles lined up behind 'em. You can't get into a restaurant to eat. And the parking lot at Walmart is full of boats, SUV's, RV's, camp trailers, etc. And these people don't know how to park between the lines! They just pull in, and shut it down, where ever it seems like a good spot. And forget about going out on the lake! These folks think this lake was made just for their personal pleasure. They put their boat in, and then take an hour to move the trailer off the ramp. Last year, I spent more time in line, than I did onthe lake. Thanks for the blog, TT, I'm done ranting, my own self!

Went to walmart tonight around 9pm. Crowded with tourists. I guess there's nothing much to do here when it gets dark besides go to walmart. The dumb arses in line ahead of me in their bathing suits and cover ups bought ONE bag of seashells, and that was it. Seriously? Seashells at walmart? They sell those in all the walmarts back in the fake flower section. Another thing I don't like is when they go into stores in bikinis only dripping wet, flinging water everywhere. I really hate it when they let their little kids go in like that. I mean there's pervs everywhere. Your kid could get snatched.

You must have been there, during the bass tournament! There are crazies from everywhere, when the tournament is going on. You gotta be careful, because all they think about, is get there fast, and get to the ramp fast!

I also hate when there's a big group of teens and they each have 1 or 2 inexpensive items each and they check out one by one instead of combining it all and putting it in one purchase.
