Something Interesting at TFL

Well interesting to me anyway. I never read any of the post in that forum until this morning. This is what I found.
Legal and Political is now closed
The Firing Line regrets to announce that the Legal and Political Forum is now closed to new posts. This drastic measure is necessary to maintain the integrity of TFL.
Many years ago, we were challenged by Rich Lucibella to prove a point. “…that Internet Discussion Forums need not be ‘Chat Rooms’; that spirited debate need not include personal attack; that internet exchange need not fall to the level of lowest common denominator.” For the most part, TFL has succeeded in that endeavor. I am saddened to say that this has not been the case in Legal & Political. The signal to noise ratio in L&P has been going in the wrong direction for quite some time and no amount of rule changes, punitive actions or mass bannings will fix the problem permanently.
The staff of The Firing Line owes a debt of gratitude to all our members who have contributed thoughtful, rational, challenging and respectful posts to L&P over the years. We know that we can someday meet Rich’s challenge, even in the hotbed of political discussion. Over the coming days and weeks, the staff will discuss the fate of the Legal and Political forum and consider all our options. We request the membership to be patient while we determine where to go from here.

 |  i am not suprised at all. the ratio of a-holes to respectful is too high everywhere. there is nothing that can be done about that. QUOTE;no amount of rule changes, punitive actions or mass bannings will fix the problem UNQUOTE we still get guys here(it is always a guy) that will start ranting about censorship. this site is private property. it aint a democracy. it's REAL easy to see why chris asked us mods to delete /ban/close/ etc. political threads. i stopped explaining why threads get shut down. these clowns know the rules. |

| |  I try not to even go on political sounding threads now. I still do from time to time but at least I try. There are certain people who seem to live for stirring up sh*t. So now when I ID them I add then to my iggy list. |

| | I quit going to TFL some time ago when the members there were telling a minor that his father had no right to remove weapons from the house that the minor had under lock and key. The minor admitted that the father didn't get rid of the weapons; he only relocated them and was requiring the son to get either his or his grandmother's permission to get access to them. I could not agree with the attitude of the members and advice the minor was given and will not go back to TFL because of it. |

| | I need to correct myself. I returned to TFL to rebutt an individual that espouses the best course of action for someone carrying a concealed weapon that finds themselves in an armed robbery by two individuals in a restaurant is to do nothing unless the bad guys shoot first. |
