Let them eat cake

Read THIS article and then read my entry.

Read it? Are you about as pissed off about this as I am? If you aren't, I think I can help with that.

It sounds like the Obamas have thrown a party pretty regularly on Wednesdays and other days throughout the week at the White House. Big name performers like Stevie Wonder, and Earth Wind and Fire have appeared. Cocktails have been consumed, and I'm sure the food hasn't been too bad either. In the meantime the economy keeps slipping deeper into recession, more people lose their jobs daily, families are being forced out of their homes, and finding a job in many places is like finding a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. But at least the White House can party it up. "Let them eat cake."

Decent and hardworking families are starving to pay their bills. Families who have worked hard and spent their money wisely are suffering on immense levels. I'm not talking about low-life welfare rats, or people who bought $500,000 dollar homes on $40,000 a year salaries and brand new cars. I'm talking about people who bought modest homes they could afford, and worked honest jobs, and have since lost them through no fault of their own. People who the very next day went on day long job hunts and simply couldn't find them. People who are shameful to go on unemployment benefits. People who paid their taxes. These are the people who are suffering while Obama throws lavish parties weekly. People starve while they dine on chef prepared meals and sip expensive liquor. "Let them eat cake."

The nature of the article is also infuriating. Celebrating this man for throwing parties amid the worse recession in recent memory. Celebrating the man who throws billions at banks as the American people starve. Celebrating the man who gives jobs to tax-dodgers while honest people are fired from theirs by reluctant small-business owners. That article suggests this is all a part of Obama's effort to make the White House more accessible. That is complete, unadaulterated, BULLSHIT. More accessible to who? The average working-middle class Joe who worked an honest blue collar job their whole life, or the people who Obama wants to take care of, or who the media is sympathetic to? Nobody gives a flying fuck about the guy who paid his bills, raised a family, and worked an honest job. If those people showed up at the White House steps would they be allowed in to these parties? I highly doubt it because their story isn't glamorous enough. "Let them eat cake."

Sincerely,
An honest, hard working, white middle class American male...Kyle Gunn

While the president should excercise more caution since he is under the microscope; this is nothing new to him. Bush 41 spent his entire presidency on a fishing boat while we had troops in Iraq. Every weekend it was either Kennebunkport or Camp David. It isn't like these performers are being coerced into coming to the White House; I am sure they are all over themselves to get into there to perform for him. Meeting the President is a big deal to alot of people and being able to say you performed for him is also a big resume filler.

While it looks bad there is plenty of other policy related material to be rightfully critical about.
