Things to be more self-reliant...

So I am sitting here at my desk staring out the window with my dog as I do most Sundays. It is a good time to think and watch people do the things they do. Started thinking about all the things we can do to become more self-reliant. This will just be a list, and little more, and in no particular order
. I've started looking into trapping animals here, probably won't be getting into hunting since I will be leaving in August and elk season isn't until fall. Add any others you have come up with and comment on ones you have already started doing.
- Hunt/trap animals
- Butcher and clean animals
- Reloading ammunition
- Gardening
- Animal Husbandry
- Wood stoves and fireplaces
- Chopping your own wood
- Doing your own car maintenance
- Doing your own house maintenance
- Biking/non motorized forms of transportation
- Food processing
- Welding/blacksmithing
- Medicinal plant growing
- Home-brewing
- Sewing/mending
- Knitting/crochet
- Hair cuts
- Water collection and purification
- Flint-knapping
- Power generating

That's a good list of self-reliance knowledge and skills...
...and, I've got a few of them underway (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 17, 18 and 20).
Not sure that I'll need the home brewing...
