No Dr. Gatlin wasnt military. This gentleman is Dr. John A. Dalghren who invented the Dalghren gun. A rifles cannon that was sighted and had a super re-enforced breech even though they were muzzle loading and were used extensively for naval and iron clad warfare. He later as was thought to have a hand in the hide away carriage shore guns used to defend forts that were on the coastline.

Yea well thats how it goes some times.
Ill see if I can find another onefor you to ponder over sometime today. No he wasnt a
ancestor of mine but I do have one that was hanged by the brits because of his involvement with Francis Bacon then his orphaned boys were raised by G.W. s Father and one of them went with Simon Kenton to
Kentucky then on to Tenn. I was told.
The other two wen farther south to the Carolinas and on went to live with the Cherokee there and the other the Seminole
    in Fla.

Nice! I wish I hadn't been AWOL, I knew who he was, from all the history books I read, thru the years. There's still some of his guns, at Fort Point, in San Francisco, til the mayor decides to get rid of them, for glorifying the Civil War!
