OK, just got in from my own personal cycling Tour de Desert Knolls, 5.06 mi., 747 calories burned per Gmap-pedometer.com. As best I can reckon the finishing hill is 1.3 miles at 3% avg grade. I'm sure the pros don't even slow down for that grade, but it works for me.

Alrighty then, why bother. Life is good with trips to Carl's Jr, Big Mac attacks, Appleby's, Olive Garden, comfortable car, football and golf on Sunday TV, etc. There are several reasons to change my lifestyle. 1) I don't...

I contacted a buddy who I knew rode his bike to work (about 7 mi. each way) and asked him if he knew of someone with a used 10 speed for sale. He said actually he did, himself! He had upgraded his ride and his old bike...

Day 2: the grandkids are still in school for another week so its hard to get up and out, do our walk and be back in time to get them to the bus. So, in lieu, I got out my Discovery Channel pro-style cycling shirt and jumped on the 12 speed. My bike skills are still rusty, but hopefully I'm not totally unsafe.

Entry 1: OK, to keep myself accountable for getting (or one day staying) in shape I think maybe it's best to put myself out there, even if no-one else reads this.

Day 1: 12 June 2011. My wife and I did a nice 5 mile walk on the easy path up at Big Bear Lake, approx 6,700'. What a beautiful day! 67 deg, cloudless and a cooling breeze. We took it easy but we did the whole 5 mile roundtrip.

On the way home we were hungry. It was either fried chicken or Chinese. We rationalized...

Reduction of Clutter

Posted 01-16-2011 at 12:11 PM by Chris

Looking at the forums, I was noticing a cluster of forums on the main page. Often times, I have to look at things from a "new user". While members, including myself get used to the way things are, I have to find new ways to make things easier. Sometimes users, such as yourself, make suggestions, and I try them out on a private site. Just to give you an idea, I have 4 versions of the site on a different part of the server, and I have 4 different layouts, connections speeds and I test...
