Heading out

I was gonna blow off bow season this year as the Mrs and I shot a moose and that'll feed us about two years. Changed my mind, got a land-owners permission, set my ladder stand, checked my bow for sights at 15-25yds, cut my index finger sharpening broadheads, checked the camo clothing, heading for a scent-free shower and then to the woods this afternoon. I'm horn hunting this fall.
Best luck to any other bowhunters out there.

OK, Joe. Not today though. Just three raccoons, 2 squirrels and someone's housecat. Oh, lots of owls early on to serenade me. Tomorrow morning then....as today I'm running two smokers and smoking up 110lbs of summer sausage, 1/2 of it deer and the other half moose. Should be done tonight.

Mmmmm send some sausage my way! Good luck Rambo!

I'm also just a meat hunter for now, well sorta. Actually just killed a small buck last weekend. Had never killed a deer with a bow so I decided I was taking the first deer I had a good opportunity at.

My first bow kill was a yearling. I kept holding out for bigger after that one.

Saw three does tonight, about a half hour of daylight left. they were outside the woods, in a field. No buck about so no rut yet. I won't get back out until Sunday AM, unless I can get off work on time.

I went out this afternoon as I heard the bucks were chasing does. About 4:45 this 8 point jumps the fence and come in to about 15yds. I couldn't let him get away. Complete pass-through and he ran about 30yds, stopped and the fell over. Long drag out but got him home and butchered up for my unemployed neighbor before I realized I hadn't taken a picture. Here's one of it's head. I'll boil it out and hang it on the wall with the others. That's it for bow season. 3 weeks and it's off for Wisconsin gun deer season. Hunting with family.
