What broadhead?

What broadhead would you suggest for a 45 lbs recurve?

I can tell you which one I've used that caused a problem. I used something called a "Wasp Hammer" with replacement blades.

I thought it would work out slick for a couple reasons.

1) It would be cheaper just to replace the blade.

2) I didn't want to travel in the field with shall we say a live arrow, prone to nicking branches, arms, fingers, (God forbid) bow string, etcetera.

So I would place the blades on the broadhead once I reached my predetermined location, unfortunately, my used blades got mixed up with my new blades. I was unable to determine (later) which were used but never fired, and which had actually been fired for practice into styrofaom. I even used a microscope thinking I should be able to see a good edge from a bad edge. Nope.

Plus trying to place the tiny blades in the head is not easy. I recommend staying away from heads with replacement blades. Too much hassle.

i use expandable broadheads on my compound set at 65 lbs
i guess use a low grain broad head like the 75 grain hornet i heard many good things about them

Howdy from GA !

I have hunted with a recurve for many years and have arrowed 5 deer so far. All have been taken with a 3 blade muzzy 100 gr. fixed blade. There are many options out there today and I am sure that they all would be effective if used properly, but I have found the Muzzys to be " "Straight to the point ! " A good friend and hunting partner uses the old Howard hill heads but I have found them to plane a bit to much for me.

Alot of deer have fallen to a Zwickie & recurve combo.

Broadheads & Points-Glue-On Broadheads-Zwickey-3Rivers Archery Equipment, Traditional Youth Archery Bows and Arrows, and Long Bow Hunting

im kinda old fashioned too. with a recurve, i like the old bear razorheads. muzzy's are also good, and ive always had good results with my old wasp camloc II's. they all cut very nicely, and fly well.
