| Arrow rest recommendations ?
I need to get a new rest for my Diamond Liberty. I want a drop away rest that will also hold the arrow in place. Ive been looking at the QAD ultra pro but its a little pricy for me at $140. Also was looking at the Ripcord and its around $95. anyone have any experience with these or possibly some others that might be good? the one i have on it right now is old and it doesnt have a brand name on it. i think its a bodoodle. it has 4 aluminum prongs that hold the arrow in place. i like it and it has worked good for many years, but its a little noisy, so im lookin for somethin else now.

It's not a drop-away, but I love Whisker-Biscuits...they surround the arrow so it can't fall off and they're quiet. Cabela's -- Search Simple Product

I'm with skiking, the trophy takers are very well built, I have used one for the last 6 years with no problems at all. you can get them on ebay for around $50 including shipping..

Whisker Biscuit with carbon arrows is my choice. It's quiet, [comparative] cheap, and simple. There are no crazy moving parts and gadgets and guaranteed it will keep it in place. Please note to buy the proper one for your arrows, as there are multiple sizes and stiffnesses (gigity.)

| Yes they do. You can get carbon arrows just as heavy as aluminum ones. There are several factors as to why they penetrate just as deep. Aluminum is dinosaur technology as far as I am concerned.

That being said, I don't care if you still like your aluminium arrows...if they work for you, Great!

Jeez where do I start! If you have a bow that will send an arrow straight, meaning going in straight, you don't need a ton of speed or arrow weight. A forty pound bow is plenty of bow to kill any deer on the planet with a 20 yard shot. Even an elk which is a deer. A well tuned bow and a super sharp broadhead is the key. Shooting out farther than that I'd recommend more speed and weight but even with this, the main killing factor (blood loss) is the sharpness of the broadhead and how it severs the blood vessels. Carbon, aluminum, wood makes little difference when you don't hit the spot and the broadhead isn't sharp.

That was kinda my point^ I'm just saying carbon is tougher and more consistent...penetration is a moot point. I just shoot a heavy bow because I can, I'm big enough for it not to be a strain, and I started shooting with a old compound with almost no let-off, so these modern bows with 65% let-off are a piece of cake.

| Fall Away rests
I have shot just about all of them. My pick right now is the Whammie by Spott Hog. Its a little pricey, but a good rest is extremely important. If it don't work consistently it may cost U the buck of a life time. Carbon vs. aluminum. The carbon are a lot more durable than alum. I shoot 45 lbs with a Bowtech Liberty. I have no problem shooting through a deer with Muzzys or Thunderheads 100 grs.

DHT, U are not wrong. U are just shooting what U have confidence in. That is important also. I shot Gold Tip Hunters and they do fine. There are many really good inexpensive arrows.

| Tyler I use carbon but I think use what you prefer if it works for you. Sounds like you got you a buck already with them in another post. So who cares whats in or new. If it ain't broke don't fix it right?

I have a Trophy Taker I would sell for $30 +shipping if you are interested. I like it just fine, but I fell into a deal on another rest and don't need it any longer...... as far as the arrow thing you fellas are discussing, weight= kenitic energy and that is where penetration comes from, while you don't need a 450gr arrow to kill a deer, if that's what shoots for you, and you have confidence in it, SHOOT IT!! this would be a boring world if they only made one kind of bow, arrow release, ect. for what is is worth I like heavy carbon arrows, and 100 gr. cut on contact arrows, good penetration, you can't get a straighter arrow than alum. period Last edited by Chromie; 10-07-2009 at 12:32 PM. |
