talk to me like im dumb - cause i kinda am.

so i used to live in Ohio, but for the last year i have been living in southeast north carolina.

in ohio, you can hunt deer with a crossbow OR compound bow - in NC its compound only.

i kinda dont see the fairness in being able to snipe an animal at 100yds wich is pretty much why i switched myself on to 'bow hunting' (i know the purists will argue that crossbows are not bow hunting)

basically i learned what i know about hunting by reading everything i could on websites a lot like this, so, here i am again asking for someone to talk to me about a good way to start in terms of a compound bow, how are these things sighted? i mean you cant bench rest them so how is this accomplished? whats a good bow to start out with? (of course $ is a factor as im not Rockafeller here...) im kinda thinkin bow package where i get the sights, whisker biscuit, peep sight, quiver, and one of those steel things that let you put a release on it.......see....this is how little i know, i know that something like that exisits but not what its called.

one other thing, this might all be for not, my hands are horribly riddled with carple tunnel and arthritius and im not sure if i can hold the drawn bow correctly (my hands would be why i would like a release as well)

heck, im not even sure my shoulders are good enough for this type of activity....

if its not painfully obvious, i am not very learned about this subject and have very limited 'hands on' time with a compound bow.

so - talk to me like im stupid, cause i am about the subject of compound bows, give me your imput on the subject, tell me to stick to my 'sissy stick crossbow' or just tell me to shut up.....

either way its 4:30am here and my posts might not make any sence what-so-ever.......sorry

I don't know the law there...but in MO, if you are incapable of using a bow because of injuries or disabilities, you can get a special crossbow permit...ya might look into that if you want to.

You might try your local Bow shop, Bass Pro ,etc and see if they have a set up you can try on site. That way you`ll know what can handle before you shell out any money . Plus, they`ll give you help on getting started.
Sounds like with some of your problems, you better find out up front if can
handle the sport(bow-hunting) before you commit to it. Good luck.

OKlahoma you can hunt with crossbow if unable to draw conventional bow or are 60 yrs old. AI hunted with recurve before compunds exixted. Crossbow is archery, if NC has a similar law. I would rather make a good shot and recovery with a crossbow than a marginal to bad shot with a compound. Crossbows however are a real pain in the ass to deal with so use your own judgment if you have the option.
