I was a Boy Scout, and I like them.

But they can't have their cake and eat it too; if they want to avoid government policies by saying they're a private organization, they can stop expecting special treatment and taxpayer support that other private organizations don't get.

Right now, they're kind of like the Indian tribes and sovereignty; they're trying to step on whichever side of the line is more convenient for any given situation.

Yeah; I read about the how the Federal Gov't "helped" the Indians in the 19th C. giveing the blankets infested with the small pox virus so that they could stay warm in the winter months.
Whenever the gov't be it local, county, state or federal says they want to help you'd best start running and running fast!
Cyrille.

What does that have to do with the fact that the Indians today claim to be sovereign nations when it suits their purposes, and citizens of the US when that's more convenient?

My point was that, like today's Indians, the Boy Scouts want to be a public entity when it'll get them free rent or other government perks, and a private organization the rest of the time. Instead of "running and running fast," they're trying to have their cake and eat it too.

My point is the gov't offers the boy scouts, the indians, private enterprise,
the homeless, etc. a "helping hand" with out being asked. The entity that is offered the 'help' accepts it thinking there are no strings attached The much to their chigrin find out that because the gov't 'help'was accepted "Big Brother" now has a say in how things are to be done by that entity. And if those who were helped do not "fall in line" then the threat of sanctions or actual sanctions are put in place by the gov't.

If they don't want government control, they should refuse government help. Period. I doubt there's anyone in the country today who doesn't realize it always comes with strings.

Not that I agree with everything the government wants to cram down their (or our) throats, you understand. I'm just saying that's the way things work.
