Browning A-5 recoil

Well I bought a well used Auto 5 and cut the barrel down to 20in "already have long barreled bird guns" so made it into a thick brush bunny blaster. But man does this thing kick hard even set up for heavy loads shooting those cheap 100pack trap loads from walmart. My main question is would a old recoil spring and related parts cause this hard recoil?

I have had an A5 20 since the mid 80's, and yes, the spring can affect the "slap" by not dispersing it over the spring compression cycle. It will always be a little heavier than a gas operated gun, but not by much. You should be able to order a spring from Browning.
ALSO, flip the sleeve the proper direction for the "load" you are shooting.
This is, don't set in for heavy and shoot light, or vice versa...

Its a 12ga that I cut the barrel down to 20 inches so It probaly has more recoil because of thats why I left it set for heavy loads its not recoiling hard like its battering the reciver just figured it would kick less then my pump.

Congrats on one of the oldies but goodies. I love my A-5. I inherited it from my Dad. It was made in '64 and he bought it in '69. It was a little heavy on the recoil & had never had the springs or friction ring replaced. I bought a factory rebuold kit from MGW
Browning Auto-5 Part Kits: MGW
It runs like new now. Something to consider, being a recoil operated gun, the weight (length) of the barrel comes into play on how the recoil functions. I would definitely kit it and give it a good cleaning.
My A5, pictured had a cracked forarm. I replaced it with a Japanese made Miroku which is thicker and has better reinforcement in the area prone to cracking. I stained and oiled it as best as possible to match the stock. All in all I'm very happy with it.

Two things to consider

First, the springs do wear out on the A-5.
Second, this gun is built on pretty exact tolerances of barrel weight.

The little bit of extra weight that was on the barrel may have slowed the recoil down closer specifications. On recoil, your moving mass, there is now less of it to move. A new recoil spring and friction ring at a minimun may help. If you have a direct line to heaven, you can ring up JMB and ask.

Looks like an A5, I doubt verry much it would function in any aspect other than a single shot, the stock is cut down way too much to have a return spring in it as well as the tube that houses it. Cool movie stuff though.
