Browning Model 12

Hello, All! First time user. I just purchased a used Browning Model 12 in 20 ga from Cabelas. Extra clean. When I got it home, I cleaned it and put in some snap caps to check out the action. After firing on a snap cap, I worked the slide to eject the shell, but it was locked tight. Wouldn't budge. After fiddling with it, I discovered that I had to nudge the slide forward just a bit to then allow the slide to retract to eject and reload. This is my first experience with a Model 12 or a Browning shotgun. Is this normal? Does it take a live shell to function differently (correctly?)?
Any thoughts/help appreciated.

Mark

It is "normal" with Winchester Model 12's, so probably normal with the Browning Model 12's. My Winchester Model 12 acts like what you are describing.
