22 crickett or heritage 22

i have a 357 magnum that i carry with me when i go out camping, but i am going to get another gun to go with me next year. kentucky has a spring squirrel season that runs 28 days, and while camping i'd like to have a small gun to get a few. i am a small frame guy 5'6" 150lbs and have shot the crickett and shot it well, i've also got a chance to get a heritage rough rider with 6 inch barrel that i shoot well too. which gun if those were your choices would you get?, i'm on a tight budget so these two are my only choices. thanks for any help.

I'd go for the cricket--it seems a better bet for a squirrel gun than a Heritage--and I have a heritage that I love.

If I could throw out another idea, Rossi combo. Either 22 and 20 or 22 and 410. My oldest got the 22 barrel about 15 months ago and will get the 20 barrel for Christmas. The 22 is VERY acurate. I've been told the 20 has some kick due to light weight. I've seen them as cheap as $110. Wally has the 22/410 for around $125 I think.
Just something to think about.

For your purpose go with the cricket. With a little practice you should be able to hit squirrels 30-40 yards away. I dont see you doing that with a 6 shooter.

If you can swing it the heritage too or it's still available when you can it is a darn good little pistol.

Considering the price of each, why not get both?
I agree with Browning that huntin' tree rats with a pistol may not be the best recourse. Since you shoot accurately with the Cricket and it works for you, go with it. Keep in mind whatever you decide make sure the firearm fits you well.
Have you considered, perhaps, a Savage Mark II? or a Marlin bolt (925, I think)?

Gotcha...the Chipmunk or the Cricket then...or a holstered Heritage.
Back where ya started, huh?
