Advice/Tips on Pocket Carry

I have been carrying a glock 17 9mm IWB off and on for about a year. It was just to uncomfortable to carry everyday with every outfit. I also live in the South and am a big guy so I came to the conclusion the G19 was just to big for my EDC but I didn't want to go LCP or smaller. Since then I have purchased the Ruger LC9. All that to say, I am now an every day carrier no matter the heat or what I am wearing. I carried a friends LCP and a 32 Pocket carry a while back so I knew I would like it but I have been surprised how easily I have taken to it.

Does anyone have any tips or advice for EDC pocket carry?

I am using a Blackawk holster and it is ok but already losing some form. Any Pocket carry accessories you would recommend?

I do plan to practice draw and firing on a regular basis as well since I think pocket carry takes more practice than a regular OWB holster.

You pretty well nailed it.

I have yet to find a pocket holster I like long term. Even with a pocket holster I would recommend keeping an eye out for lint buildup. Also, lubrication doesn't seem to last as long with my pocket carries, seems like they are always dry and dirty.

My suggestion - Just make sure not to shoot something off that you may want to use later. I suggest a pocket holster of some kind as the best way to avoid that. I use a Galco leather holster with my Kel-tec. It serves me well...

I am searching for the right combination of pocket holster as well. I bought a pocket holster that was supposed to be one that was easy to draw and stayed in the pocket during draw. With dress pants or baggy shorts the holster comes out with the pistol. Wish it would stay in the pants pocket. I am thinking that IWB is still the best idea.

I partly understand this concern but unless I am just doing it wrong or differently it never points that direction. The pocket holster does keep it pointed strait down and I draw strait up.

I have a DeSantis holster for my LCP. My shorts aren't baggy, but it does stay put and just the gun comes out. And if any of you fellers are interested, it's really easy to bling your holster with beads and stuff.

know, I was just messing with ya. I carry IWB with a Bersa 9mm and have only carried my PA-63 in a pocket a time or two.

Just always make sure you use a pocket holster for pocket carry. Your biggest dangers are that your pockets will get snagged on a sharp corner and your gun will fall down your trouser leg without one. Also a pocket holster keeps the gun to where you can grab it easy on the draw.
Finally don't put anything else in your gun pocket except your holstered gun. Keep change, keys, pocket knives, etc... in another pocket.

I have the DeSantis pocket hoslter for my Kel Tec P3at. In my dress pants the holster is not able to hold the pistol up right and when I try to draw the pistol and holster both come out!

I am thinking maybe a large rubber band around the outside of the holster should help in the draw.

USE A HOLSTER !

That's about it. Uncle mikes makes some good and cheap ones for pocket carry.

I use a nemesis for my Sig 238 which works fine. There's also a leather one which is a little heavy but acts like a wallet with the gun secured in a holster behind the outer shell layer. If you are worried about printing this is the ticket.

Pocket carry in a tight pocket will be slower than everything else--especially if in a rear pocket. In a nemesis in a front pocket with loose flt draw speed is OK but still not as fast as a strong side holster.

I carry a Kel Tec P3AT with CT laser in a Uncle Mikes #1 pocket holster.

The design of the holster allows for a spare mag to be carried in the same holster by cutting some of the stitching.

This does not bother the retention of the fire arm at all and squares off the shape of the firearm in the pocket.

Holster tends to be a little to deep for the P3AT so you may need to add a small amount of filler to bottom of holster, I use a partial paper towel rolled and fitted to my liking.

This also works to catch any excess oil after cleaning the firearm.

All and all a very neat package that conceals very well and if it does print looks like you are carrying a wallet in front pocket.
